The successful candidate will provide strong innovative teaching in Pathology including histopathology that provides insights into and understanding of the basic mechanisms of common diseases in humans and the current diagnostic approaches used in clinical pathology practice. Teaching of medical knowledge and clinical skills focuses on active learning methods and small group activities. Clinical skills education begins in the first semester and continues throughout the entire 5 medical sciences semesters making use of an outstanding simulation center employing professional standardized patients. The successful applicant should also have excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working closely with medical students to help them acquire the required medical knowledge and to develop clinical competency.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Knowledge of the principal mechanisms that underlie the basis of disease.
- Preparation of course materials relevant to pathology/mechanisms of disease and integration of student and peer feedback to enhance the learning experience
- Delivery of interactive lectures small group sessions and casebased presentations
- Supervision of educational activities of students under actual or simulated situations
- Preparation administration and grading of formative and summative assessments to prepare students for licensing examinations and clinical rotations.
- Participation in curriculum planning development and delivery
- Actively engage in professional development activity to stay abreast of changes in their field
- Serving on AUC committees as appointed or elected and actively participate in University activities
- Serves as a positive professional role model for students assisting in their professional/social development.
- Participation in other activities as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
AUC faculty members do not provide clinical care as part of their faculty responsibilities and licensure in St. Maarten is not a requirement for a fulltime faculty position.
Qualifications :
- PhD MD Required or other relevant terminal degree Required
- 35 years of relevant experience Required
- Completion of residency training in a medical specialty and recent practice experience preferably in pathology in North America preferred
- Experience in teaching pathology/mechanism of disease
- Excellent working knowledge of United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) content areas relevant to pathology/disease mechanisms required
- Clinical and teaching experience in the United States Canada or the UK preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong interest in working with medical students required
- Skilled in using technology and technologies that enhance the learners experience
- Demonstrated creativity in utilizing advances in pedagogical methodologies
- Flexibility and ability to work well on a team.
- Willingness and ability to reside in St. Maarten
