JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for tasks that ensure smooth patient access and ow.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include recording patient information such as vital signs weight and changes in medical history preparing items necessary for the visit like consents and special equipment and assisting the provider during the examinations.
Cleans and prepares exam rooms and sterilizes instruments per protocol prepares and administers medications for patients as directed by the physician and completes prescription re lls.
Follows standardized procedures for giving injections to patients.
Keeps the of ce running smoothly by answering phones greeting patients updating medical charts and records handles preauthorization process matches patients insurance information with correct provider for the services needed and orders laboratory services.
The Medical Assistant provides updates to the staff and patients on timing and status for all the above tasks and ensures even patient ow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician of ces.
Protects patient con dentiality and follows procedures for handling con dential information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Additionally the lead coaches and directs activities of Back Of ce Assistants to ensure smooth operations.
Counsels and/or assists with progressive disciplinary process as needed and coaches to correct de ciencies/improve performance.
Coordinates/participates in the interview and selection process of new Back Of ce Assistant team members.
Veri es daily/weekly/monthly logs. Responsible for monitoring patient ow.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Oncology and Specialty Clinics: Follows clinic guidelines for handling instruments and equipment utilized in clinic procedures.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) plus years in healthcare related eld AND a minimum of three (3) plus years previous experience within an acute healthcare system environment.
Intermediate keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Of ce Suite including Outlook Word and Excel.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Working Knowledge of EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record system EMR Quali ed bilingual or multilingual candidates.
Please note specific qualifications for this role supporting the Compass Team:
Experience in a busy practice managing a minimum of 20 patients a day across lab draws injections and rooming
Familiar with digital technology and/or app to facilitate patient care and provider visits as this role may be required to help patients troubleshoot app issues when logging onto virtual visits
Comfortable taking blood samples through a finger prick for DNA testing
Ability to juggle multiple tasks at a time in this role the MA Lead may be supporting the MA drawing blood and then immediately need to room a patient
Policy adherence and strong understanding of clinical roles as it pertains to an MA clinical rules and regulations patient documentation and privacy laws
Well versed in patient EHRs specifically Epic
EDUCATION:
Required:
High school graduate or equivalent or GED.
Graduate of Medical Assistant program.
OR
Three (3) plus years in healthcarerelated eld AND a minimum of three (3) plus years previous experience within an acute healthcare system environment.
Preferred:
Associate or bachelors degree in healthcarerelated eld.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE:
Required:
Current BLS Certi cation.
Preferred:
Medical Assistant Certi cation.
Current Limited Phlebotomy Certi cation
