HR and OD Advisor
Full time 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Hybrid role Based at home but with occasional travel to either Auckland Wellington or Sydney

Cognition Education is a global authority on education effectiveness. We deliver digital learning leadership training and largescale governmentfunded education projects in the UK Australia New Zealand the Pacific Islands and the Middle East. This is a Human Resources and Organisational Development role where you will work closely with the Group Director People and OD and the HR and Talent Advisor (based in the UK) to provide comprehensive HR and OD advice that includes guidance and support to managers and staff on the full range of people policies practices procedures systems and resources that enable managers to manage and develop staff more effectively and improve performance; covering the areas of:
- People management
- Performance and attendance
- Health and wellbeing
- Employee engagement
- Equality diversity and inclusion
We are a people business so we re looking for someone who not only understands people systems and processes but also the people behind them. This role would be perfect for someone looking to work in a fastpaced business supporting HR operations for our employees in New Zealand Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Key Responsibilities
- Being the first point of contact for various HR queries from employees and managers throughout the business.
- Building effective working relationships with our people managers.
- Using HR information systems to access input and compile data and produce reports to inform decision making.
- Assist Group Director People and OD to roll out learning and development initiatives against our L&D strategy.
- Using HR technology solutions to improve daytoday operations (e.g. ATS and HRIS software).
- Working in partnership with managers plan strategies to support the effective management and timely resolution of people issues and employee relations cases.
- Advise managers of the people implications of their decisions providing relevant information to support their decision making and risk identification.
- Monitoring reviewing and updating all HR policies and ensuring these are in line with current legislation.
- Working with the Group Director People and OD to ensure our employee handbooks employment documentation and processes are up to date legally compliant and followed by all.
- Attending and contributing to the Health and Safety Committee and Wellbeing Collective to ensure a better experience for all our employees.
Requirements
Key skills qualities and experience
- HR expertise and experience to at least assistant level with a confident knowledge of NZ and AU employment laws
- Good knowledge of report building and using data to track performance against measures (Excel knowledge would be an advantage)
- Ability to work and adapt in a fastpaced constantly evolving environment often by yourself (with regular Microsoft Teams meetings for support)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including being able to draft documents emails and adverts with grammatical accuracy
- Ability to quickly establish credibility and build good working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and challenge appropriately
- Well versed with HRIS systems experience of Zoho People would be a plus!
- Exposure to the Education sector is advantageous.
