Overview of the Role
The Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation’s migration to a more advanced data management system. This includes ensuring data accuracy developing new workflows building dashboards and generating actionable insights. The role also involves contributing to the organisation's broader data strategy ensuring compliance with GDPR and POPIA regulations and mentoring learners enrolled in data science programmes.
Key Responsibilities

Data Migration and Integrity
- Oversee the accurate migration of learner and applicant data from legacy systems to new platforms.
- Map update and validate data fields while addressing anomalies duplicates or missing information.
- Build and integrate new data workflows into the updated system to meet current requirements.

System Development and Integration
- Collaborate with teams to replicate and enhance workflows in the new system.
- Develop userfriendly interfaces and dashboards for internal teams external partners and learners enabling them to access actionable insights.

Data Strategy and Governance
- Assist in implementing a robust data strategy that aligns with GDPR and POPIA requirements.
- Promote best practices for data storage management and sharing across the organisation.

Training and Learner Support
- Facilitate practical training for learners in data science courses offering mentorship and guidance.
- Update content on the learner management system (LMS) ensuring clarity and relevance while developing automated grading processes where feasible.

Data Analytics and Insights
- Analyse organisational data to generate insights for improved learner outcomes.
- Develop predictive models and datadriven tools to enhance programme effectiveness particularly for marginalised youth.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education and Experience:
Proven experience in data migration projects with a preference for experience in education or nonprofit sectors. - Technical Skills:
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python R or SQL and experience with data management systems. Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau Power BI) and machine learning techniques. - Compliance Knowledge:
Familiarity with GDPR POPIA and other relevant data privacy frameworks.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with data from diverse marginalised communities.
- Knowledge of cloudbased platforms (e.g. AWS Azure) and largescale data migration processes.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
