Job Description

What will you be doing

We are seeking a talented individual to join as Data Engineer in Glasgow to join a growing team to deliver a large data modernisation programme.

As Data Engineer you will be responsible for designing developing and maintaining our new Evelyn Data Platform and associated data pipelines and data models. This will require a modern data stack skillset with Snowflake experience at the core with experience of Azure Data Factory pipelines for data integration dbt for data modelling Azure BLOB Storage for data storage and GitHub for version control and collaboration.

The Evelyn Data Platform will support regulatory requirements business intelligence & insight dashboards AI use cases and numerous system integrations. This role requires strong technical proficiency and a deep understanding of data engineering patterns and data warehousing principles and practices. 

The role will be working in an agile and collaborative environment within a growing and skilled team.  An understanding of the wealth management industry or broader financial services is a plus.

As Data Engineer your responsibilities will include among others

  • Design develop and implement data products and solutions using Snowflake and Azure.
  • Create and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to extract transform and load data from various sources into the data platform (data types including structured semistructured and unstructured data from sources such as files REST/SOAP APIs thirdparty SaaS products internal databases).
  • Develop data models and schemas that support reporting and analytics needs.
  • Collaborate with business analysts data scientists and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Document data platform and pipeline architecture and database models.
  • Provide time estimates for work so stakeholder expectations and resources can be managed.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends technologies and best practices in data engineering.

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role you should have

Technical

  • Proven experience building data pipelines and data models in a core technology stack of Snowflake Azure Data Factory and data build tool (dbt).
  • Extensive use of and fully conversant in SQL with knowledge of C# or Python a plus.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts including star/snowflake dimensional modelling data vault and of the principles of batch and streaming data pipeline design.
  • Experience with source control tools i.e. GitHub and familiarity with DevOps practices including CI/CD workflows.
  • Extensive experience in designing building deploying and supporting cloudbased data products and solutions within the Azure cloud platform.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI is desirable.
  • Experience with Azure AI Services and/or Snowflake Cortex AI would be a plus.

NonTechnical

  • Strong ability to extract information by questioning active listening and interviewing.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate and understand business processes and information flow.
  • Business Analysis skills to derive requirements from business stakeholders.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative within agreed boundaries and to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to communicate with nontechnical colleagues at all levels of the organisation with confidence and with clarity.
  • Calm under pressure and keen to highlight others successes.
