Ingram Barge Company is seeking a Barge Inspector Trainee to join our Barge Maintenance and Repair team in Houston TX. This Inspector role will assist learn and physically perform barge repairs under the direction of the Barge Maintenance and Repair Manager. Barge Inspector Trainees will determine learn observe and execute repair activities and practices of Ingrams dry cargo and liquid cargo barges. Your work ensures our barges are in topnotch condition and keeps our business humming along smoothly for a seamless customer experience. This is a role for those with a focus on customer service and do not mind getting their hands dirty in the process!
What you will be doing:
- Working safely and by the Ingram Way
- Learning identifying and implementing good barge repair practices and Ingram policies
- Introduction to repair cost estimates and the Ingram P.O. system.
- Assisting in expediting repairs in a timely manner ensuring quality of work while tracking cost.
- Exposure and practice to updating the respective customer service group of any changes in completion of repair schedule.
- Filling in for barge inspectors as needed.
- Assisting barge inspectors and M&R personnel as directed
- Supporting department activities with regular and prompt attendance.
- Introducing establishing and maintaining good working relationships with vendors and USCG.
- Being able to make quick decisions based off learned knowledge and experience
- Rotating in a ThursdayThursday oncall schedule with other barge inspectors for designated areas of coverage as needed
- Responding to calls when inspection/response is needed to initiate the repair process during standard hours of operation after hours and weekends as directed.
- Emergency response and preparation including overnight/ out of state travel
Qualifications :
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- High School diploma or GED required
- 2 years in marine industry required
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
- Basic computer skills.
- Selfmotivated.
- Confined space training.Knowledge of barges and the marine industry
- Ability to operate a single & twin outboard engine work boat a plus
- Ability to safely navigate in and along the inland rivers a plus
- Background in welding and marine repair policies practices and techniques preferred but not required
- Customer service or maintenance and repair experience preferred.
- Experience driving with trailers a plus
