Job Description
- The Materials Science Lab at Longmont is a leader in materials and chemicals analysis and serves as the hub for materials science related challenges for the Drive Design Center.
- The lab team works closely with several crossfunctional partners including Product Design Engineering Head and Media Factories Supplier Quality Engineering and the client worldwide materials science community to understand complicated materials issues provide indepth analyses and develop unique analytical solutions for lab instrumentation.
- The lab hosts stateoftheart organic analysis and material science techniques including multiple GCMS techniques FTIR TGA DSC Raman and surface analysis techniques.
- Provide indepth materials and chemical analysis using liquid and gaseous organic techniques primarily using gas chromatography.
- Evaluate materials for use in hard drives to support longterm reliability and functionality.
- Work closely with crossfunctional partners to solve unique challenges facing the next generation of harddrives.

- Bachelors Degree in chemistry chemical engineering or related field experience preferred or Masters Degree in chemistry chemical engineering or related field.
- Handson experience in gas chromatography and organic analysis instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Experience writing engineering reports and giving presentations.
- Strong materials characterization expertise with other techniques including but not limited to Thermal Desorption Raman FTIR TGA and DSC.
- Knowledge of polymer chemistry.
- Advanced data and statistical analysis skills.
