The successful candidate will be expected to carry out impactful research, teach courses related to the candidate’s research field, contribute to core courses and/or electives in public sector management and leadership, supervise capstone projects, and contribute to the overall academic environment of the School.
1. Teaching & Curriculum Development
Course Development: Designing and updating courses related to climate policy, environmental sustainability, and related fields (e.g., environmental economics, climate science, sustainable development).
Lecturing & Mentoring: Delivering lectures, leading seminars, and guiding students through complex topics, helping them understand the global, political, and socio-economic dimensions of climate change.
Student Supervision: Supervising graduate and PhD students’ research projects, theses, and dissertations, often providing guidance on climate policy analysis, sustainability frameworks, and environmental justice.
Assessment & Feedback: Designing assignments, exams, and other assessments, and providing constructive feedback to help students grow academically.
2. Research & Scholarly Activity
Conducting Research: Engaging in independent or collaborative research on climate change, sustainability, adaptation strategies, renewable energy, and other related topics.
Publishing: Writing and publishing research papers, books, or articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the academic literature on climate policy.
Securing Funding: Seeking research grants and funding opportunities to support their research projects, often working with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Presenting Findings: Presenting research findings at conferences, symposia, or public forums to share insights with academic peers, policymakers, and the general public.
3. Policy Engagement and Advocacy
Advising Policymakers: Engaging with governments, international organizations, NGOs, and corporations to influence and guide climate policy development.
Public Engagement: Participating in discussions, writing op-eds, or providing expert commentary on climate change issues through media, conferences, or public speaking engagements.
Sustainability Consulting: Offering expertise on the implementation of sustainable practices, green technologies, and climate mitigation strategies for businesses, government agencies, or communities.
4. Service to the Academic Community
Committee Work: Serving on university committees, contributing to academic governance, and shaping institutional policies around climate education and sustainability.
Collaboration: Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to foster interdisciplinary research and teaching, promoting sustainability in other fields (e.g., urban planning, economics, engineering).
Peer Review: Reviewing academic papers, grants, or conference submissions for academic journals or funding agencies.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in economics or an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in environmental science/engineering and economics with a track record of research on environmental and sustainability topics.
Strong Research Record: A proven ability to conduct high-quality, impactful research in areas such as climate policy, environmental governance, sustainable development, climate economics, and adaptation strategies.
Interdisciplinary Approach: Demonstrated ability to engage in interdisciplinary research, collaborating with scientists, policymakers, economists, and industry leaders.
Publications: A strong portfolio of peer-reviewed publications in top academic journals, books, and reports related to climate policy and sustainability.
Research Funding: Experience securing research grants and funding from governmental agencies, private foundations, or international organizations.
Policy Influence: A track record of influencing or advising on climate policy, either through direct consultancy, governmental roles, or collaborations with international organizations.
Teaching Experience
Teaching Record: Experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on courses related to climate policy, sustainability, environmental economics, or related fields.
Curriculum Development: Demonstrated ability to develop innovative and relevant course materials that integrate climate science with policy analysis and sustainability practices.
Mentorship: Experience in supervising and mentoring graduate students and PhD candidates, with the ability to guide research projects and foster intellectual growth.
Pedagogical Expertise: Familiarity with modern teaching methods and technology, including blended learning, online teaching, and interactive classroom environments.
