ESL Teacher

To commence February 2025

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated ESL Teacher to support students in Grades 15 in developing their English language proficiency. The successful candidate will work with young learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds helping them improve their listening speaking reading and writing skills in English through an engaging and immersive approach. This role requires creativity patience and a strong understanding of language acquisition strategies tailored to young learners.

The school founded in 2016 is a K12 international school located at the foot of the picturesque and historic YuQuan Mountain Haidian District in Beijing. The campus is 200000 square meters of beautiful gardens that integrate natural ecology cultural heritage and modern beauty with 140000 square meters of green space.

The school curriculum is organized into the Elementary School grades K5 the Middle School grades 68 and High School grades 912. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Educations nineyear compulsory education program the curriculum is built on the strength of both Chinese and Western education.

For Elementary and Middle School the school follows a bilingual program using the US Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards along with the Chinese National Curriculum. For High School the school follows the US Common Core and College Board AP curriculum and also offers the UK IGCSE and ALevel UK programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum Development

• Plan develop and implement engaging ESL lessons aligned with international language acquisition frameworks (e.g. CEFR WIDA or Cambridge ESL).
• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to support language development including phonics interactive storytelling roleplaying and projectbased learning.
• Foster a supportive English immersion environment to enhance students confidence and fluency.
• Differentiate instruction to accommodate students at various proficiency levels and learning styles.
• Collaborate with homeroom teachers to integrate ESL support within the general curriculum.

Assessment & Student Progress Monitoring

• Conduct formative and summative assessments to track student progress in language development.
• Provide individualized feedback and create learning plans for students requiring additional language support.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate with parents and school leadership on language development milestones.

Classroom Management & Student Engagement

• Create a positive inclusive and engaging classroom environment where students feel comfortable taking language risks.
• Implement classroom management strategies that promote active participation discipline and student motivation.
• Encourage students to develop a love for the English language through literature creative writing and interactive activities.

Collaboration & Professional Development

• Work closely with other ESL teachers homeroom teachers and school leadership to align language instruction with the schools overall educational goals.
• Participate in professional development workshops teacher training sessions and ESL program enhancement initiatives.
• Contribute to cocurricular activities school events and languagebased extracurricular programs (e.g. English clubs drama or reading groups).

Qualifications & Experience Required:

• Bachelors degree in Education English Linguistics TESOL Applied Linguistics or a related field.
• Ideally B.Ed PGCE US License but TESOL TEFL CELTA or equivalent ESL teaching certification (120 hours or more) accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ESL teaching experience in an elementary school setting (Grades 15 preferred).
• Experience working with young English language learners (ELLs) in an international or bilingual school setting is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of early childhood and elementary language acquisition strategies.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and use various ESL teaching methodologies to support diverse learners.
• Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to foster a positive learning environment.
• Strong intercultural communication skills and adaptability to teaching in a multicultural setting.
• Experience teaching in China or familiarity with Chinese language and culture is a plus.
