Our clients around the world rely on NielsenIQs data and insights to innovate and grow. As a Data Engineer working with Spectra youll be part of a team of smart highly skilled technologists passionate about implementing data models to produce insights that help our clients operate efficiently and sell more stuff. Our team values quality results continuous learning and a deep understanding of the models we produce and use.
Currently our focus is on integrating Spectra with other NielsenIQ offerings to create a new application that combines some of our fastestgrowing and most valuable products. To achieve this we need to modernize backend data engineering processes from existing Python and C applications running onpremises to primarily Databricks/PySpark and Scala with data assets in Hive Snowflake and Postgres. Our data engineers must be able to work in both environments until the transition is complete.
Our teams are colocated and agile with central technology hubs in Chicago Madrid Toronto Chennai and Pune. Many agile team members also work remotely.
Responsibilities
Identify design and implement internal process improvements including redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability optimizing data delivery and automating manual processes.
Transform conceptual algorithms from R&D into efficient productionready code. A strong mathematical background is essential to document and maintain the code.
Integrate finished models into larger processes using UNIX scripting languages such as Bash Make Python Airflow etc.
Produce and maintain documentation for released data sets new programs shared utilities or static data.
Ensure quality deliverables to clients by following existing quality processes manually calculating comparison data developing statistical pass/fail testing and visually inspecting data for reasonableness. Deliverables must be ontime and defectfree.
Qualifications :
Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
B.E./B.Tech. in Computer Science CIS Electrical Engineering Operations Research or related technical field.
Expertise with UNIX/Linux OS particularly in file/data parsing commands and scripting.
Programming experience in Python including common data manipulation libraries such as NumPy and Pandas.
Basic knowledge of SQL capable of handling common functions.
Ability to write highly efficient code in terms of performance and memory utilization.
Teamoriented with strong collaboration prioritization and adaptability skills.
Meticulously data quality oriented.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Additional Information :
Helpful Skills
Experience modeling or manipulating large amounts of data.
Experience with various types of data: Geographic Demographic Expenditure Panel Location Cartographic.
Coursework or experience in Numerical Analysis Mathematics or Statistics.
Familiarity with databases such as Oracle and Postgres.
