Job Description
Job Title: Firewall Linux and Network Specialist/Engineer
Location: Hybrid
Employment Type: Parttime (2 days per week)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Firewall Linux and Network Specialist to join our client on a parttime basis. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining developing and troubleshooting various Linux systems network configurations and firewall technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Linux environments DNS management and network security with a focus on Fortinet technologies and cloud services. You should be able to independently troubleshoot issues and handle configurations related to DNS mail gateways VPN and certificate management. Optional experience or willingness to learn about FortiGate/FortiManager security devices is a plus.
Tasks
Linux Systems:
Setup maintain and manage Linux systems (at least 35 years of experience).
Develop and replace technologies within the Linux environment.
Optional: Design and implement cloud or onpremise architectures.
Network Management:
DNS administration including managing and troubleshooting DNS services.
Expertise in network technologies such as Radius and DHCP.
Optional: Basic understanding of CISCO networking technologies.
Firewall & Network Security:
Experience with Fortinet firewalls (Fortinet NSE3 certification or equivalent knowledge).
Optional: Knowledge of Web Application Firewall (WAF) technologies.
Optional: Basic Azure Cloud knowledge.
Troubleshooting & Support:
Collaborate on troubleshooting services for issues with Postfix FreeRadius NginX and Bind9.
Troubleshoot and analyze faults using logs configuration files and independent research (1 year practical experience required).
Specific troubleshooting areas include:
Bind9 DNS
Postfix Mail Gateway
NginX reverse proxy
DHCP and Linux DNS (iasdhcp)
StrongSwan VPN (including iptables NAT)
Certbot and certificate management (keystore truststore pem/p7b formats and integration into Nginx).
Optional:
Willingness to learn and develop expertise in FortiGate/FortiManager firewall rule management and configuration.
Requirements
- 35 years of experience in Linux systems administration.
- Strong knowledge of network services including DNS DHCP Radius and VPN technologies.
- Handson experience with Fortinet products (FortiGate FortiManager) is a plus.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure) is desirable.
- Practical experience with DNS (Bind9) Postfix NginX and related technologies.
- Knowledge of certificate management and associated tools (Certbot keystores truststores).
- Optional: Experience with FortiGate/FortiManager rule configuration or an eagerness to learn.
- Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to work independently in a parttime capacity.
Preferred Certifications:
- Fortinet NSE3 (Network Security Associate) certification (or equivalent knowledge).
- Optional: Fortinet NSE4 (Network Security Professional) or related certifications.
