Job Title: Interim Director of Patient Financial Services

Department: Patient Financial Services
Reports To: Senior Vice President/Chief Financial Officer

Location: Santa Clarita CA
Employment Type: Interim
Pay: Up to $70/hr plus bonus and relocation assistance

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Director of Patient Financial Services to lead and oversee patient billing collection functions and patient access operations (admitting registration financial counseling insurance verification and cash collections) in an acute hospital setting. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President/Chief Financial Officer this role is integral in ensuring compliance with federal state and local regulations while driving operational excellence.

This position is ideal for a resultsoriented professional with extensive experience in patient financial services and a proven track record of leading teams and improving processes in a hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daytoday management of patient billing and collection functions.
  • Direct and manage patient access operations including admitting registration financial counseling and insurance verification.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure accurate and timely billing to thirdparty carriers.
  • Monitor daily cash flow and manage accounts receivable to maintain industry standards.
  • Prepare statistical analytical and management reports as requested by the CFO.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align department objectives with hospital goals.
  • Supervise a team of approximately 25 staff members including 2 managers.
  • Develop and implement efficient workflows to enhance patient financial services and patient access operations.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives for staff through education training and positive reinforcement of appropriate working practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations at federal state and local levels.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Manage external billing services and maintain relationships with vendors and governmental agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare/Medicaid regulations and other thirdparty payer requirements.
  • Oversee denial management and budget preparation processes.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to customer service dealing with internal and external customers departments and facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Administration Management Finance or a related business discipline.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certification or training through The Advisory Board CHA HFMA NAHAM or similar organizations.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 7 years of recent experience in patient billing collection and registration functions within an acute hospital setting.
    • At least 5 years of recent management experience in a hospital environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of hospital/physician admission registration billing and collection procedures.
  • Extensive analytical skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of thirdparty payer requirements Medicare/Medicaid regulations and electronic filing of claims.
  • Strong decisionmaking and analytical skills.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Windowsbased PC skills and computer applications.
