Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Course Instruction: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in various areas of law, including constitutional law, criminal law, civil procedure, contracts, torts, property law, legal writing, ethics, and specialized areas such as international law, environmental law, intellectual property, or corporate law.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and update course syllabi, teaching materials, assignments, and exams. Ensure that courses reflect current legal trends, practices, and landmark cases, while fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Interactive and Engaging Teaching: Deliver lectures and engage students in discussions, case analysis, and practical legal problem-solving. Use teaching tools such as simulations, role-playing, moot court, and case studies to enhance student learning.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Design assignments, exams, and projects to assess student understanding of legal concepts. Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students improve their analytical skills, writing abilities, and legal reasoning.
  • Academic Advising: Advise students on academic and career matters, including course selection, internships, and career paths in law. Mentor students as they navigate their legal education and professional aspirations.
  • Clinical and Practical Experience: In some cases, an Assistant Professor of Law may be involved in supervising clinical programs or externships where students gain hands-on experience in legal practice, working with clients or on legal research projects.

2. Research Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Original Legal Research: Engage in independent research in areas of law, which may include constitutional law, human rights, commercial law, environmental law, legal theory, criminal justice, or emerging fields such as cyber law or intellectual property.
  • Publish Scholarly Articles: Write and publish research papers, articles, and books in reputable, peer-reviewed law journals. Present findings at legal conferences, seminars, and workshops, contributing to the development of legal scholarship.
  • Interdisciplinary Research: Collaborate with other scholars, including those in political science, economics, business, and philosophy, to explore cross-disciplinary issues and perspectives in law.
  • Research Funding: Apply for grants and funding from legal foundations, government agencies, or private institutions to support research projects. Explore areas of law that have a direct impact on public policy, justice, and legal reform.
  • Supervise Graduate Research: Mentor and supervise graduate students (LL.M., J.D., or PhD candidates) in their thesis or dissertation work, providing guidance on research methodologies, legal writing, and the publication process.

3. Professional Development:

  • Stay Current with Legal Trends: Continuously update knowledge of new laws, regulations, legal cases, and jurisprudence in relevant areas of law. Attend legal conferences, workshops, and webinars to stay informed about the latest developments in the field.
  • Networking and Professional Engagement: Build professional relationships with other legal academics, practitioners, policymakers, and organizations. Participate in professional associations such as the American Bar Association (ABA) or similar legal bodies to stay engaged in the legal community.
  • Engage with Legal Practice: Depending on the institution's requirements, some Assistant Professors of Law may be encouraged or required to maintain a legal practice or provide pro bono services, ensuring their teaching and research remain grounded in practical legal experiences.

Desired candidate profile

1. The applicant must be a Saudi national.
-2. The applicant must have obtained all his/her academic qualifications from Saudi universities or recognized universities.
-3. The applicant’s grade for the position of Assistant Professor must not be less than a very good grade in all academic stages. Applicants who obtained a good grade in the bachelor’s stage are exempted from this in cases of academic or research excellence.
-4. The applicant must attach the “equivalency certificate” issued by the Ministry of Education for the academic qualifications he/she obtained from non-Saudi universities.
-5 The study system for the applicant in all stages (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) must be full-time and full-time. The applicant must attach the scholarship or assignment decision if he is a government employee.
-6 There must be an extension of specialization between academic degrees (bachelor's, master's, doctorate).
-7 Attach the classification certificate from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (for applicants for health jobs).
-8 The applicant must provide the correct data matching the official documents and the required attachments during the application period.
-9 Attend and pass the personal interviews.
-10 The applicant must be medically fit.
