Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching Responsibilities:

• Lectures and Course Instruction: Deliver engaging lectures on core mechanical engineering topics such as thermodynamics, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, dynamics, heat transfer, material science, manufacturing processes, and mechanical design. Ensure that course content is up to date and aligned with industry standards.
• Laboratory Instruction: Lead hands-on laboratory sessions where students can apply theoretical concepts to real-world experiments. These may involve testing materials, analyzing fluid dynamics, or developing prototypes using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
• Curriculum Development: Develop and update course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and exams. Ensure that the curriculum addresses both foundational engineering principles and emerging trends, such as sustainability, automation, and robotics.
• Student Assessment: Evaluate students’ understanding and skills through exams, projects, presentations, lab reports, and other assignments. Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their technical, analytical, and communication skills.
• Mentoring and Advising: Advise students on academic progression, career development, internships, and research opportunities. Offer guidance on coursework selection, professional certifications, and engineering licensure.

2. Research Responsibilities:

• Conduct Research: Engage in original research that advances mechanical engineering. Possible areas include robotics, thermal systems, fluid mechanics, biomechanics, manufacturing, renewable energy systems, nanotechnology, or computational mechanics.
• Publish and Disseminate Research: Publish research findings in reputable academic journals and present them at national or international conferences. Share knowledge through publications, articles, and presentations to contribute to the growth of the discipline.
• Collaborate on Research Projects: Work collaboratively with colleagues, both within the university and externally, on interdisciplinary research projects. These projects may involve industry partners, government agencies, or other academic institutions.
• Research Funding: Apply for and secure research grants from governmental agencies (e.g., NSF, DOE), private industry, and other funding sources to support your research initiatives.
• Supervise Graduate Students: Mentor graduate students (MSc/PhD) in their research projects. Assist them in research design, data analysis, publication, and presentation of their findings.

3. Professional Development:

• Continuing Education: Stay updated with the latest advances in mechanical engineering by attending professional development courses, workshops, conferences, and seminars. Engage with professional organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) or other relevant bodies.
• Networking: Develop and maintain professional relationships with peers, industry professionals, and researchers. Collaborate with industry on research projects and gain insight into current challenges in mechanical engineering.
• Certifications and Licensure: Depending on the focus, work toward certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, Six Sigma, or other industry-recognized qualifications that can enhance teaching and research.

Desired candidate profile

The applicant must be a Saudi national.
-2 The applicant must have obtained all his/her academic qualifications from Saudi universities or recognized universities.
-3 The applicant’s grade for the position of Assistant Professor must not be less than a very good grade in all academic stages. Applicants who obtained a good grade in the bachelor’s stage are exempted from this in cases of academic or research excellence.
-4 The applicant must attach the “equivalency certificate” issued by the Ministry of Education for the academic qualifications he/she obtained from non-Saudi universities.
-5 The study system for the applicant in all stages (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) must be full-time and full-time. The applicant must attach the scholarship or assignment decision if he is a government employee.
-6 There must be an extension of specialization between the academic degrees (bachelor's, master's, doctorate).
-7 Attach the classification certificate from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (for applicants for health jobs).
-8 The applicant must provide the correct data matching the official documents and the required attachments during the application period.
-9 Attend and pass the personal interviews.
