Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Lectures and Seminars: Deliver lectures and seminars on topics such as health information systems, electronic health records (EHRs), health data analytics, telemedicine, health information privacy and security, and the role of informatics in improving patient care.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop, update, and refine course content, including syllabi, assignments, and learning materials for health informatics programs. Ensure that the curriculum is current, evidence-based, and addresses emerging trends in the field.
  • Instruction in Technology Tools: Teach students how to use various health information technology tools, such as EHR systems, data visualization tools, and health management platforms. Train students to analyze and interpret data to make informed decisions.
  • Student Assessment: Evaluate student performance through exams, assignments, projects, and presentations. Provide feedback to help students improve their understanding of health informatics and its real-world applications.
  • Mentoring and Advising: Serve as an academic advisor to students, particularly those pursuing a career in health informatics, offering guidance on coursework, career paths, research opportunities, and professional development in the field.

2. Research Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Research: Engage in research focused on health informatics, such as exploring the impact of EHR systems on patient outcomes, data-driven decision-making in healthcare, improving health information exchange, or studying the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in healthcare applications.
  • Research Publication: Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, participate in conferences, and contribute to the development of new knowledge in health informatics and related fields.
  • Collaborate on Interdisciplinary Research: Collaborate with healthcare professionals, technologists, data scientists, and policymakers on interdisciplinary research projects that explore ways to integrate health informatics into clinical, administrative, and policy decisions.
  • Grant Writing: Apply for research funding from government agencies, healthcare organizations, and private foundations to support health informatics research projects that contribute to healthcare system improvement and innovation.

3. Technology and System Implementation:

  • Technology Integration: Teach students how to implement and manage health information systems in healthcare settings, including the adoption of EHR systems, data analytics platforms, and other technology solutions. Guide students in understanding the technical aspects of system design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Clinical Workflow Analysis: Help students understand how informatics can be used to analyze and optimize clinical workflows. Focus on areas like improving care coordination, reducing medical errors, and enhancing patient satisfaction through technology.
  • Health Data Standards and Interoperability: Educate students on the importance of health data standards (e.g., HL7, ICD codes, SNOMED CT) and the challenges of interoperability between different health information systems. Teach how these standards support data sharing and improve the quality of care.

4. Administrative and Service Responsibilities:

  • Departmental Service: Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other service roles within the department and the broader academic institution. Contribute to discussions on program development, faculty recruitment, and accreditation processes.
  • Curriculum Development and Evaluation: Work collaboratively with colleagues to assess and improve the health informatics curriculum, ensuring it reflects the latest industry standards, technologies, and trends.
  • Service to the Profession: Participate in professional organizations related to health informatics (e.g., Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society [HIMSS], American Medical Informatics Association [AMIA]) and contribute to the profession by attending conferences, participating in committees, and staying up to date with best practices in health informatics.

Desired candidate profile

1. The applicant must be a Saudi national.
-2. The applicant must have obtained all his/her academic qualifications from Saudi universities or recognized universities.
-3. The applicant’s grade for the position of Assistant Professor must not be less than a very good grade in all academic stages. Applicants who obtained a good grade in the bachelor’s stage are exempted from this in cases of academic or research excellence.
-4. The applicant must attach the “equivalency certificate” issued by the Ministry of Education for the academic qualifications he/she obtained from non-Saudi universities.
-5 The study system for the applicant in all stages (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) must be full-time and full-time. The applicant must attach the scholarship or assignment decision if he is a government employee.
-6 There must be an extension of specialization between academic degrees (bachelor's, master's, doctorate).
-7 Attach the classification certificate from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (for applicants for health jobs).
-8 The applicant must provide the correct data matching the official documents and the required attachments during the application period.
-9 Attend and pass the personal interviews.
-10 The applicant must be medically fit.
