Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching Responsibilities:

• Lectures and Seminars: Deliver lectures on topics such as mental health disorders, psychiatric assessment, therapeutic communication, psychopharmacology, crisis intervention, and nursing interventions for mental health conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder).
• Clinical Instruction: Supervise students in clinical settings like psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, or community mental health centers. Guide them in providing compassionate care to individuals with mental health conditions, developing therapeutic relationships, and performing mental health assessments.
• Curriculum Development: Design and update course materials and syllabi for mental health nursing courses. Ensure that the curriculum is current, evidence-based, and in line with best practices and accreditation standards in psychiatric nursing.
• Student Assessment: Assess student performance through exams, assignments, clinical evaluations, and case studies. Provide constructive feedback to help students refine their clinical skills and theoretical knowledge.
• Mentoring and Advising: Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, particularly those interested in specializing in mental health nursing. Guide students in their clinical placements and support them in exploring career opportunities in mental health.

2. Clinical and Applied Mental Health Nursing:

• Direct Clinical Practice (if applicable): Some Assistant Professors of Mental Health Nursing continue to practice in clinical settings, either in full-time or part-time capacities. This could include working in psychiatric wards, crisis centers, addiction treatment programs, or community mental health agencies.
• Therapeutic Interventions: Teach students the various therapeutic approaches in mental health nursing, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and crisis intervention techniques. Supervise students in practicing these interventions in real clinical settings.
• Mental Health Promotion and Advocacy: Work with students on the importance of mental health promotion and strategies for early intervention, reducing stigma surrounding mental illness, and advocating for patient rights in mental health settings.

3. Research Responsibilities:

• Conduct Research: Engage in research focused on mental health nursing, such as exploring effective nursing interventions for specific psychiatric disorders, mental health outcomes, nursing practices in mental health care settings, or the impact of social factors on mental health.
• Publish Research: Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to advancing the knowledge base in the field of mental health nursing.
• Grant Writing: Apply for research funding to support projects that explore new treatment approaches, improve patient outcomes, or examine the effectiveness of various mental health care interventions.
• Supervise Student Research: Mentor graduate or doctoral students in their mental health nursing research projects, guiding them through study design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings.

Desired candidate profile

1. The applicant must be a Saudi national.
-2. The applicant must have obtained all his/her academic qualifications from Saudi universities or recognized universities.
-3. The applicant’s grade for the position of Assistant Professor must not be less than a very good grade in all academic stages. Applicants who obtained a good grade in the bachelor’s stage are exempted from this in cases of academic or research excellence.
-4. The applicant must attach the “equivalency certificate” issued by the Ministry of Education for the academic qualifications he/she obtained from non-Saudi universities.
-5 The study system for the applicant in all stages (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) must be full-time and full-time. The applicant must attach the scholarship or assignment decision if he is a government employee.
-6 There must be an extension of specialization between academic degrees (bachelor's, master's, doctorate).
-7 Attach the classification certificate from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (for applicants for health jobs).
-8 The applicant must provide the correct data matching the official documents and the required attachments during the application period.
-9 Attend and pass the personal interviews.
-10 The applicant must be medically fit.
