Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching Responsibilities:

• Lectures and Seminars: Deliver lectures on topics in medical microbiology, such as microbial pathogenesis, immunology, clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance.
• Lab Instruction: Supervise practical laboratory sessions where students gain hands-on experience in microbiological techniques like bacterial culture, microscopy, PCR, and antibiotic susceptibility testing.
• Curriculum Development: Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and lesson plans. Ensure courses reflect the latest research and clinical practices, particularly in the context of emerging infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
• Assessments and Grading: Create and grade exams, assignments, and lab reports. Provide feedback to students, guiding them on how to improve and understand the material.
• Student Mentorship: Offer academic advising and mentorship to students, including helping guide research projects, providing career advice, and offering support for students pursuing advanced degrees or research opportunities.

2. Research Responsibilities:

• Conduct Research: Engage in research focused on medical microbiology, with potential areas such as the molecular mechanisms of infection, antimicrobial resistance, host-pathogen interactions, or the development of vaccines.
• Publish Research: Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at scientific conferences, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in microbiology and infectious diseases.
• Grant Writing: Apply for research grants to fund laboratory projects and clinical studies. Seek funding from government bodies, private foundations, or industry sponsors.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with clinicians, public health organizations, and other researchers on interdisciplinary projects that apply microbiology to clinical, epidemiological, or environmental settings.
• Supervision of Graduate Students and Researchers: Mentor and supervise graduate students, medical students, or postdoctoral researchers in their research endeavors, providing guidance in experimental design, data collection, and scientific writing.

3. Clinical and Applied Microbiology (if applicable):

• Clinical Teaching: Teach medical students or healthcare professionals about the microbiological aspects of infectious diseases, diagnostic techniques, and the application of microbiology in clinical settings (e.g., microbiological testing in diagnostics).
• Clinical Collaboration: Work with clinical microbiologists and other healthcare professionals in diagnosing and managing infectious diseases, contributing to the understanding of pathogen detection, epidemiology, and treatment options.
• Diagnostic and Laboratory Oversight: In some roles, faculty members may participate in the operation of clinical microbiology labs, helping develop and oversee diagnostic tests for bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic infections.

4. Administrative and Service Responsibilities:

• Departmental Service: Participate in departmental meetings and committees, contributing to curriculum development, faculty recruitment, and strategic planning for the department.
• Curriculum Review and Improvement: Assist in reviewing and revising the medical microbiology curriculum to ensure it is aligned with current scientific advancements and clinical needs.
• Student Support: Contribute to student recruitment, retention, and advising. Participate in student outreach activities, open houses, and academic counseling.
• Professional Service: Represent the department at academic and professional conferences, workshops, and other events. Serve on editorial boards, grant review panels, or professional society committees.

Desired candidate profile

-1 The applicant must be a Saudi national.

-2 The applicant must have obtained all his/her academic qualifications from Saudi universities or recognized universities.

-3 The applicant for the position of Assistant Professor must have a grade of not less than Good in all academic stages. Applicants who have obtained a Good grade in the Bachelor’s stage are exempted from this in cases of academic or research excellence.

-4 The applicant must attach the “Equivalency Certificate” issued by the Ministry of Education for the academic qualifications he/she obtained from non-Saudi universities.
-5 The study system for the applicant in all stages (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) must be full-time and full-time. The applicant must attach the scholarship or assignment decision if he is a government employee.
-6 There must be an extension of specialization between academic degrees (bachelor's, master's, doctorate).
-7 Attach the classification certificate from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (for applicants for health jobs).
-8 The applicant must provide the correct data matching the official documents and the required attachments during the application period.
-9 Attend and pass the personal interviews.
-10 The applicant must be medically fit.
