Salary: $29.17 to $36.46 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

Position Summary
Cancer Experience team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is looking for a motivated and creative individual to fill the key role of Music Program Coordinator. This role will be in a hybrid work environment.

The principal responsibility of the Music Program Coordinator of the Cancer Experience Program is to manage the Music in the Atrium Program in line with UHNs vision mission and purpose.

Music in the Atrium is a musical program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre that has been running for almost 30 years. We host local musicians to perform regular live musical concerts at the Cancer Centre. The onehour long concerts are held in an open area and are dropin style wherein patients families and staff can attend and listen in while they are waiting for and going to and from appointments. The concerts are also livestreamed on YouTube.

This role serves the critical function of coordinating the successful operations of the Music in the Atrium Program including the artistic curation and booking of the musicians gathering musician information for promotional materials concert set up and equipment maintenance. The coordinator is a key member of the Cancer Experience Program team and works collaboratively ensure this concert series runs smoothly and successfully to benefit the patients families and staff at the Cancer Centre.

Duties

Scheduling and Administration

  • Books local musicians on a rolling basis in accordance with performer roster provided and engages in community outreach as needed.
  • Functions as the main liaison between musicians and the Cancer Centre.
  • Ensures a diverse set of performances genres and ensemble sizes.
  • Coordinates and maintains the programming schedule for each season.
  • Ensures seasonal bookings are within the allocated budget in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Coordinates payment of the musicians in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Collaborates with team members to advertise the concerts including providing musician headshots and biographies.

Concert Set Up and Coordination

  • Plans organizes and executes the Music in the Atrium concerts.
  • Leads set up and tear down of each concert including audiovisual and livestream preparation.
  • Hosts the concerts including introducing the musician to the audience and any other programming announcements.
  • Ensures equipment is safely transported and put away in allotted storage location.

Performs crossfunctional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned or requested:

  • Works collaboratively with the rest of the Cancer Experience team on continuous program improvement development and evaluation.
  • Contributes to other initiatives in the Cancer and the Arts portfolio as needed.
  • Ensures that the music program complies with relevant policies regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations reporting hazards deficiencies and contraventions of the Act in a timely manner.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Ensures technical equipment is stored and maintained and notify Program Manager if replacements or repairs are needed.
  • Maintains the grand piano (owned by the Princess Margaret) including annual tuning and humidification.

Qualifications :

  • At minimum completion of a 3year community college program in music arts administration or recognized equivalent is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge/experience with the local music community and musicians.
  • Knowledge/experience with coordination.
  • Knowledge/experience with live performance setup and acoustics.
  • Excellent organizational problemsolving and timemanagement skills.
  • Computer (i.e. Microsoft Office YouTube livestream) and audiovisual system knowledge required (i.e. Behringer XAir 16 program)
  • Experience with event planning an asset.
  • Experience interacting with hospital patients and families an asset.
  • Must display critical strategic thinking ability to adapt to fastpaced dynamic environment.
  • Ability to anticipate and analyze risks and issues explore alternatives and develop appropriate recommendations.
