Job Description

CONTEXT

The purpose of the Marketing BU is to sustainably maximize cash flows from the marketing of Anglo American products and services. In support of this we have set ourselves a target to deliver a considerable uplift in Value.

The Shipping Team is a standalone profit centre (separate legal entity) and service provider for ocean freight services within the Marketing Business Unit.

As part of its role Shipping is the in house ocean freight service provider for the Marketing Business services which includes but are not limited to commercial freight provision technical operations safety and regulatory support and market information. Shipping leverages off the Anglo American cargo base to generate additional earnings from ocean freight activity by engaging in third party freight activity. Using global scale and strength the team aims to optimise the marine activities and provide safe reliable sustainable and competitive freight to the commodity businesses their customers and further into Shippings own customer base.

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the role is to be responsible and lead the commercial activities in the Minor Bulk sector of the Shipping portfolio this includes chartering scheduling and vessel operations/marine accounting.  The incumbent will be accountable for the physical PNL of the Minor Bulk freight portfolio including containers and chemical cargo requirements.

KEY TASKS

Leadership

  •  Effectively lead the Minor Bulk team ensuring full management of team members and achievement of agreed business targets.
  • Ensure the team fully understands the teams commercial strategy and how they contribute towards achieving it.
  • Support personal and professional development of direct reports and employees once removed; and ensure the whole team is suitably skilled to meet present and future business needs.
  • Proactively work with other Marketing leaders to create opportunities for employees to work beyond their immediate teams in order to maximize commercial synergy innovation and career development opportunities across the Marketing.
  • Shape the Marketing culture and lead by example to embed the Marketing behaviours as the way the Marketing BU works together.

Commercial Activities

  • Manage and develop the relationship with the Business Units to generate and expand freight value initiatives and increase delivered sales.
  • Oversee the Groups commercial interface with the freight market (front office) that is; accountable for the transacting of all minor bulk transactions.
  • Manage the independent review and analysis of mid/long term charter arrangement from the Chartering team
  • Responsible for the development and enhancement of the Groups dry bulk freight strategy.
  • Lead and communicate the development of the overall Group Freight strategy for minor bulk activities including key tactical projects and individual CMT requirements.

Risk and Governance

  •  Deliver the CMT Shipping Commercial strategy within Marketings defined risk and governance framework.
  •  Coach others to embed a zerobreach culture.

Qualifications :

Knowledge

 

  • Strong knowledge of the dry bulk freight market (physical) including industry framework recent market trends and the regulatory landscape.
  • Expertise in global commodity markets and their drivers with particular relevance back to ocean freight markets
  • Deep understanding of marketing fundamentals (ie. pricing delivery strategy value chain dynamics voyage calculations).
  • Strong understanding of financial management and contract management.
  • Strategic Acumen ability to lead the company into new directions which significantly enhance the organisations longterm market position
  • Results Orientation capability to turn strategic thinking into concrete actions with measurable benefits in terms of shareholder value creation.
  • Collaboration Skills ability to constructively engage external and internal partners working vertically and horizontally across the organisation
  • Analytical Skills ability to analyse interpret and act upon certain industry trends as well as to analyse problems and using sound judgement to generate workable solutions
  • Visionary Leadership ability to develop a clear and compelling organisational vision and the capacity to communicate such aspirations in a way that will inspire and motivate other stakeholders to strive for same
