Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Effectively inform and educate guests about their specific wellness concerns.
Prepare, clean and help maintain the treatment rooms and other work areas.
Uphold the standards of sanitation and sterilization as directed by spa’s policies and procedures.
Actively promote the spa, treatments services and retail as well as promotions/offers available.
Ideally with a relevant degree or diploma in Hospitality or Tourism management.
Minimum 2 years of work experience in Hotel operations.
Good problem-solving, administrative, and interpersonal skills are a must.
1. Providing Therapeutic Massage Treatments:
Administering different types of massage such as Swedish, deep tissue, sports, hot stone, aromatherapy, and others, based on client needs and preferences.
Using hands, forearms, elbows, or mechanical devices to apply pressure to the muscles, fascia, tendons, and ligaments.
Customizing each session according to the client’s condition, including pain management, stress relief, and muscle relaxation.
2. Client Consultation:
Assessing client needs through intake forms, verbal discussions, and health history to ensure appropriate treatments.
Explaining treatment options to clients and making recommendations based on their specific conditions (e.g., neck pain, chronic tension, stress).
Discussing client preferences for pressure intensity, areas to focus on, or avoid, and any areas of discomfort.
3. Promoting Wellness and Pain Relief:
Helping clients alleviate musculoskeletal pain, such as from injuries, stress, or chronic conditions like arthritis, sciatica, or fibromyalgia.
Aiding in relaxation and stress reduction by providing a calm, quiet, and soothing environment.
Educating clients on post-massage self-care, such as stretches, hydration, or ergonomic practices.
4. Maintaining a Clean and Safe Environment:
Keeping the massage area sanitized, including equipment, tables, and linens, to ensure client safety and hygiene.
Following safety and health regulations to create a comfortable, hygienic space for treatments.
Ensuring proper use of oils, lotions, or other products, and knowing when to avoid or switch them based on client allergies or sensitivities.


Desired candidate profile

Continuing Education and Skill Development:
Keeping up with industry trends and attending ongoing professional development, such as courses, workshops, and certifications, to stay updated on new techniques.
Staying informed about anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology, to better understand how massage can help with specific conditions or injuries.
Client Records and Documentation:
Maintaining accurate client records to track their massage history, preferences, and health conditions (e.g., injuries or complaints) for future sessions.
Documenting progress or changes in client conditions, and adjusting treatments accordingly.
Creating a Relaxing Atmosphere:
Ensuring the environment promotes a sense of calmness and comfort through soothing music, lighting, and aromas.
Offering an atmosphere of trust and professionalism, making clients feel comfortable during their session.
Collaboration with Other Healthcare Providers (Optional):
In some settings, collaborating with physiotherapists, chiropractors, or medical doctors to provide holistic care for specific injuries or conditions.
Referring clients to other healthcare professionals when appropriate if their conditions require additional treatments.
Skills and Qualities Required:
Knowledge of Massage Techniques: A thorough understanding of various massage types (e.g., Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu) and how to apply them effectively.
Anatomical and Physiological Knowledge: Understanding of how the muscles, bones, and tissues work together and how to apply techniques that benefit clients' health.
Good Communication Skills: Being able to clearly explain techniques, take client feedback, and adjust as necessary.
Empathy and Compassion: The ability to understand and connect with clients’ needs and provide emotional support as well as physical relief.
Attention to Detail: Recognizing areas of tension, discomfort, or injury, and tailoring treatments accordingly.
Physical Stamina: Since massage therapy involves physical labor, a therapist must be in good physical condition to perform their job effectively.
Problem-Solving Ability: Knowing how to address specific issues, such as chronic pain, stress, or muscle injuries.
