Job Description

Roles and responsibilities


  • Use financial analysis, data trends and market information to anticipate needs, identify operating/financial issues, and recommend actions to maximize financial return.
  • Create the annual operating budget for the property and provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities for department heads.
  • Analyze ROI for capital projects prior to committing funds and, upon completion, determine if anticipated results were achieved.
  • Maximize cash flow performance of the hotel through controls on inventory (avoid excessive supply), credit and collection, disbursements, deposits and remittances.
  • Review rates and recommend rate strategy to the General Manager; participate in sales strategy meetings.
  • Controls all balance sheet accounts by preparation of monthly accounts reconciliation and actions accordingly.
  • Prepares monthly invoices for other IHG hotels, General Manager, Store and Shop rentals.
  • Prepares all journal vouchers for month-end closing.
  • Prepares monthly Financial Statements for distribution to Department Heads and Executives.
  • Responsible for month-end closing.
  • Approves various city ledger transactions.
  • Approves payment requests, employee advances, and petty cash prior to payment.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy.
  • Handle daily financial transactions, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support the audit process and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Assist in the implementation and improvement of financial systems and processes.

Desired candidate profile

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Financial Reporting
Prepare Financial Statements: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss (P&L) statements, and cash flow statements.
General Ledger Management: Oversee the general ledger (GL), ensuring that all financial transactions are correctly recorded, classified, and reconciled.
Account Reconciliations: Perform regular reconciliations of all accounts, including bank, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Ensure Compliance: Ensure that financial reporting complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as applicable.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Assist in Budgeting: Support the creation and management of the company’s budget by preparing financial projections and forecasts based on historical data.
Monitor Expenses: Track and analyze actual spending against budgeted amounts and provide recommendations for cost savings or adjustments.
Financial Planning: Participate in the company’s financial planning process, providing insight into financial health and suggesting improvements.
Tax Compliance and Reporting
Tax Preparation: Ensure timely preparation and filing of tax returns, including sales tax, income tax, and any other applicable taxes.
Tax Reporting: Prepare tax provisions, reconcile tax accounts, and assist in audits by external tax authorities.
Ensure Compliance with Regulations: Stay up-to-date with tax laws and regulations to ensure the company is in compliance.
