Job Description

***In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of City Planner or filed taken and passed the civil service exam 5045 or Exam #1112 for which
proof will be required***

The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining 12750 miles of sidewalk and more than 185000 corners throughout the city. The Pedestrian Ramp Program (PRP) a unit within SIM is committed to providing pedestrian (curb) ramps citywide that meet applicable accessibility laws and guidelines. Pedestrian ramps are a critical component in providing safe and accessible means of travel throughout New York City. Pedestrian ramps provide access on and off our streets and sidewalk and are an essential tool for all pedestrians especially aging New Yorkers and persons with disabilities.

PRP has an exciting opportunity to join a fastpaced collaborative innovative team. The selected candidate will be part of PRPs Planning Team who is responsible for the identification of project needs and development management of the programs multibillion dollar capital and expense budget verification of project conflicts analysis of citywide survey data maintenance of an inventory of pedestrian ramps maintenance of a public facing website and the development of work plans for future pedestrian ramp upgrades and construction activities.
Under the direction and supervision of the Planning Director the selected candidate will assist with planning efforts. Primary responsibilities will include scoping highquality pedestrian ramp reconstruction projects to be performed by partner agencies evaluating and making recommendations for improvements to processes and workflows creating reports and performing geospatial analysis.

The ideal candidate should be detail oriented accurate and a capable team player. They should have excellent organizational skills plus have a positive attitude and possess excellent communication skills. willingness to offer solutions.

The selected candidate will work closely with other DOT divisions and other agencies such as New York City Department of Design & Construction (DDC) Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to ensure the implementation of highquality pedestrian ramps throughout the City. Additional responsibilities include the planning and management of work assigned to DOTs inhouse pedestrian ramp construction crews and contracts managed by DDC. The candidate will also represent the agency at public meetings and events. The candidate will perform other related duties as assigned by the Planning Director and PRP executive


Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory fulltime experience in city planning; or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 above. Graduate
education in city planning urban planning urban design architecture landscape architecture transportation engineering public administration economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements one additional year of professional experience as described in 2 above.

Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements two additional years of professional experience as described in 2 above.
