Job Description

Were looking for a Quality Control Technician to join our Quality Team

Location Sitebased Welwyn Garden City

Sitting within the R&D function the UK Quality team contributes to ensuring the quality of Sika products; maintaining the standards and certifications that we have worked hard to achieve. In the UK Sika have factories in Welwyn Garden City Preston Leeds and Wishaw.

Purpose of the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team leading the way within Sika with goals of striving towards Quality 4.0. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the raw materials used and products produced meet the exacting standards that we and our customers expect. At Welwyn Garden City Sika manufacture and develop a range of quality concrete admixtures and cementitious mortars that are suitable for a wide range of applications within the construction industry.

The Opportunity

This is a varied role where you will have the opportunity to
 

  • Carrying out the daytoday quality control processes within the operational and lab environments
  • Ensure that raw material inprocess and product testing is effectively accurately and promptly carried out using specified methods
  • Accurately record results in Day Books and SAP.
  • Advise on corrective actions and appropriate recording methods to maintain manufactured product within specification
  • Performing additional quality related testing and investigation; Perform and record production first off checks Right first time Audits
  • Prepare small quantities of product when required for testing purposes.
  • Carry out and report upon investigative test work required i.e. nonconforming product goods returned ageing stock customer returns or alternative sources of raw materials.
  • Fulfil periodic testing and recording requirements in line with Trade Effluent consent related to COD suspended solids etc.
  • Manage rework to return to stock or to be disposed of via Quarantine Database and/or Specialist Waste log following the quarantine procedure.
  • Undertaking Quality Lab related administration tasks
  • Assist in preparation of new QC Specifications and provision of information to ensure the ongoing accuracy of such documentation.
  • Devise and prepare new Test Procedures and assist in developing existing ones
  • Advise upon any laboratory equipment the acquisition of which could improve the efficiency and/or accuracy of Quality Control testing.
  • Adhering to professional standards that ensure the quality and effectiveness of the laboratory
  • Maintain a high standard of laboratory cleanliness.
  • Ensure that test equipment is properly and correctly used calibrated and maintained to specified standards and that safe working practices are adopted at all times.
  • Ensure that adequate materials are available in the laboratory in order to fulfil the Quality Control function.
  • Provide cover for holidays absence and volume of work.

The Skills

We are looking for a proactive individual from a quality R&D or related science laboratory background. Fast learner with a keen eye for detail. Work in a systematic and methodical manner undertaking the same task with the same precision each time.

Qualifications :

  • A degree in chemistry/chemical engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in comparable/related Construction Chemicals Admixtures Concrete/Cementitious Mortars and Paint & Coatings environment.
  • Experience of working in a QC Lab / R&D / Manufacturing / Production Environment. Practical knowledge of handling building industry related products.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office SAP Spreadsheets Databases and Emails. Ability to multitask and handle workloads under pressure.
  • Problem solving and creative ability. Strong team player. Good interpersonal skills able to form good working relationships with other departments.
  • Develop and aspire to advance to a Quality Engineering role demonstrating commitment to growth and leadership in quality assurance
  • Good time keeping with a strong work ethic.
