Job Description

Roles and responsibilities


In a nutshell, as General Cashier you will prepare the hotel’s daily bank deposits, control all house funds, and to issue, audit and maintain all hotel banks according to the Company’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following;

Reconciling daily cash submissions from the various departments in the hotel and for consolidating the bank deposits daily.
Ensuring that all cash-handling employees have adequate monetary change throughout their work shifts.
Performing house bank audits as required by the Company’s policies and procedures to ensure the safeguarding of all hotel cash.
Conduct self in a professional manner at all times to reflect the high standards of the Company.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
Must have excellent cash handling skills evidenced by no overages and shortages.
Must have a commitment to follow all local and corporate policies and procedures as they relate to this position.
1. Processing Transactions:
Cash Handling: Receive payments from customers, including cash, credit/debit cards, and digital wallets, ensuring that the correct amount is processed.
Scanning Items: Scan or input prices of items accurately into the cash register or POS system to calculate the total cost of the customer’s purchase.
Issuing Receipts: Provide customers with receipts for their purchases and offer assistance with any return or exchange processes.
Providing Change: Accurately give change to customers when they pay with cash and ensure that the correct amount is returned.
2. Customer Service:
Greeting Customers: Welcome customers to the store or service area with a friendly, professional attitude, creating a positive first impression.
Answering Inquiries: Assist customers with questions about store policies, promotions, products, or services, providing helpful and clear information.
Resolving Issues: Address customer concerns, complaints, or issues related to pricing, payments, or products in a calm and professional manner.
Handling Returns and Exchanges: Process returns or exchanges according to company policies, issuing refunds or store credits as required.
3. Maintaining a Clean and Organized Work Area:
Keeping the Cash Register Area Tidy: Ensure that the cash register area is clean, organized, and stocked with necessary materials such as receipt paper, change, and bags.
Restocking Supplies: Regularly check and replenish supplies such as bags, gift cards, promotional materials, and store brochures near the checkout area.
Security of the Cash Drawer: Ensure that the cash drawer is secure and handled with care, following proper procedures for counting and storing money.


Desired candidate profile


Experience: At least 2 years of experience in similar field.
Computer Literacy: Word, Excel, and E-mail
Education: Accounting degree is required.
Promotions and Upselling:
Promoting Offers: Inform customers about ongoing promotions, discounts, and loyalty programs and encourage them to take advantage of special offers.
Suggesting Add-Ons: Upsell additional products or services to customers based on their current purchases, providing recommendations that enhance their experience.
Record Keeping:
Sales Documentation: Ensure that transaction records are properly logged and stored, including any returns, exchanges, or special orders.
Reporting: Provide daily reports on sales, cash handling, and any discrepancies to the supervisor or manager at the end of each shift.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Customer Service Skills:
Friendly and Approachable: A cashier clerk must be polite, friendly, and approachable, providing excellent service to create a positive shopping experience.
Problem-Solving: The ability to quickly and calmly resolve customer issues, whether it's related to pricing, returns, or exchanges.
2. Mathematical Skills:
Cash Handling: Strong ability to perform basic math quickly and accurately to handle cash transactions, give change, and balance the cash register.
Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure transactions are processed accurately and verify prices and totals without errors.
3. Communication Skills:
Clear Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members to convey information, answer questions, and address concerns.
Active Listening: Being able to listen attentively to customers’ needs and respond appropriately.
4. Technical Skills:
POS System Proficiency: Ability to operate the point-of-sale (POS) system efficiently to process transactions and handle returns or exchanges.
Basic Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of computers and software applications, such as inventory management systems or customer databases.
5. Organizational Skills:
Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate scanning, payment processing, and cash handling with minimal errors.
Multitasking: Cashier clerks often handle multiple tasks at once, including assisting customers, processing transactions, and maintaining the checkout area.
