  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
  • Type of Employment: FullTime 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $26.01/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80hours per year occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56hours per year occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours
The Licensed Practical Nurse will normally work from Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 3:00pm with a 30minute unpaid lunch break. The Licensed Practical Nurse will not work more than 40 hours a week.

Summary of Duties
The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide services such as reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff selection and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage form prescribed transcribe prescription data to labels using computer systems prepare prescriptions for review by a pharmacist prior to dispensing give pertinent patient instructions when appropriate; complete stock medication orders as instructed by the pharmacist.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduated from an accredited school of Vocational Nursing or program.
  • Licensed by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
  • Hold a License by National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) the Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Must have at least two (2) or more years of experience.
  • Must be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Attire
The Licensed Practical Nurse is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contractor will be performing. The Licensed Practical Nurse is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the Adults in Custody (AIC) population wear.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as required but accept only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his/her educational preparation training experience and nursing licensure laws.
  • Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal ethical and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff.
  • Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure.
  • Administer medications as prescribed i.e. by mouth intradermally subcutaneously or intramuscularly.
  • Assist with distribution of medications at pill line.
  • Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy.
  • Perform skin testing.
  • Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens.
  • Record and document patient care activities on appropriate records such as health history.
  • Record diagnostic testing i.e. venipuncture for laboratory studies visual acuity testing EKGs (per instructions from midlevel practitioners or physicians).
  • Process lab work to include filing daily.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and AAAHC policy. Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians.
  • Ensure all sharps are secured accounted for stored and disposed of according to institutional and national policy.
  • Assist the midlevel practitioners and physicians in the management and oversight of chronic care clinics.
  • Review clinical records to ensure data is entered legibly and in the appropriate section of the medical record.
  • Possess knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems i.e. hypertension diabetes and asthma.
  • Initiate emergency care as needed according to community standards.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ability and skill to operate EKG and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders and must have the ability to screen for gross mood changes.
  • Ability to provide basic first aid prevention care and guidance in treating a variety of common illnesses/injuries.
