Job Description

Join our dynamic interdisciplinary team committed to providing exceptional care for patients with congenital heart disease spanning from the youngest neonate to adult. As a congenital cardiovascular technologist youll collaborate closely with our nursing team and our cardiac interventionalists in our brandnew state of the art congenital catheterization lab. With an oncall response time of 60 minutes youll play a vital role in ensuring timely and effective patient care. How Will You Serve

Under general supervision performs a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. 

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Operates fluoroscopy digital angiography equipment hemodynamic monitors blood gas analyzers oxygen consumption analyzers and patient assessment machines.
  • Manages procedural equipment such as intravascular ultrasound fractional flow resistance intraaortic balloon pumps Impella AngloJet and power injectors.
  • Provides efficient care for cardiac patients.
  • Communicates proactively with the healthcare team.
  • Greets and interviews patients obtains medical history and explains procedures/tests.
  • Moves and assists patients onto and off the radiographic table applies EKG equipment pulse oximeter and blood pressure cuff.
  • Obtains blood samples from patients via catheter and analyzes data.
  • Measures and records patients cardiac output using a computerized Cardiac Output Catheter.
  • Monitors patients hemodynamic/electrocardiography status and reports results to physician.
  • Sets up and maintains a sterile field.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
  • Maintains own radiation protection and reports any patient or equipment problems.
  • Assists cardiologist in establishing and maintaining vascular access.
     

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBLITIES FOR THIS LEVEL:

  • Demonstrates ability to lead others such as effectiveness as charge preceptor or clinical resource and effectiveness as a multidisciplinary team member.

 


Qualifications :

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

BLS certification is required.

ACLS certification is preferred but the employee has one year to obtain the certification if the ACLS is a first time endeavor.

Certification from the ARRT as an RT(R)(CV) RT(R)(CI) or RT(R)(VI) and licensure by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist

OR

Certification from the CIC for RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) is required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR THIS LEVEL:

Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Maintenance of 15 contact hours of education every year.

Member of a professional organization.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of radiology and cardiovascular principles and practices including anatomy and physiology radiation protection and physics radiographic positioning and general nursing procedure.

Ability to operate various types of equipment to include but not limited to: EKG ACT ISTAT blood gas analyzer pulse oximeter defibrillators suction machines and Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP).

Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients medical and nursing personnel.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patients requirements relative to his or her populationspecific and age specific needs.
