Job Description

AECOM Transportation in New England is actively seeking an experienced Transportation Planner for immediate employment for our New England team based out of our Rocky Hill CT office. Imagine working on rewarding transit projects throughout New England and nationally within a growing multimodal transportation planning team. Be a leader on some of the best and most challenging transit/multimodal projects regionally with opportunities to work on projects nationally. 

The selected candidate can look forward to managing or leading tasks on projects such as multimodal corridor studies complete street projects active transportation projects transportation safety projects comprehensive operations and service planning studies feasibility studies innovative transit alternatives e.g. microtransit and sharedride partnerships automated vehicles and green energy alternatives transportation decarbonization studies bus rapid transit studies and strategic plans rural transit projects transit consolidation studies grant writing Title VI projects and transit policy and research projects. 

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: 

  • Project management task leader or key planning role on small scale to large scale transit and multimodal transportation projects 
  • Support development of sustainable mobility projects including long range transportation plans innovative approaches to developing transportation alternatives for the future 
  • Work with New England offices to support and help develop transportation planning practice throughout the region 
  • Support multimodal related planning projects and initiatives throughout the region 
  • Support AECOMs national multimodal transportation and electrification groups 
  • Analyze planning projects related to transportation including land use policies impact of projects and longrange planning needs 
  • Business development activity to include proposal writing meetings with clients and attending regional and national conferences 
  • Define regional and local transportation planning problems and priorities 
  • Prepare reports recommendations assessments and impact statements 
  • Collaborate with land use planners zoning professionals economists and travel demand modelers to research analyze or resolve complex transportation rail and transit design issues 
  • Review and assist in designing public information surveys (online and intercept type) to identify areas of public concern 
  • Support efforts in developing and implementing projects related to corridor planning highway/roadway/complete streets and emerging technologies in transportation: e.g. automated and connected vehicles TNCs and electric vehicles 
  • Support transportationrelated grant writing efforts 
  • Direct development of stakeholder surveys and lead stakeholder engagement activities 
  • Direct data collection efforts like ridership bicycle/pedestrian counts surveys etc. 
  • Direct the development of maps and graphics

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in Transportation Systems or Logistics or related field plus six years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Transit agency or state department of transportation (public sector) experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to manage and work on several projects or issues simultaneously 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Possess a flair for creative/innovative ideas and strong industry knowledge demonstrated throughout their experience in the transit industry
  • A passion for transportation/transit planning and management with a mindset of continuous learning is essential
