Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented Project Engineer to support our Water Wastewater and Water Resources practice based in Chelmsford MA.

The selected employee will have a primary focus on water/wastewater/water resources utility planning design condition assessment and mapping for state municipal and private clients. The candidate will perform a variety of tasks including site investigations field measurements utility investigations capacity studies condition assessments conceptual through 100 percent design cost estimating and construction administration/observation. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to develop professionally through frequent collaboration with senior engineers project manager clients regulatory agencies and industryleading subject matter experts and attendance at professional conferences.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provides technical support for a variety of utility design related projects including treatment plants pump/booster stations water line and collection line design rehabilitation master planning and construction administration.
  • Creates designs calculations sketches diagrams schematic drawings and final working drawings.
  • Work under supervision of a senior project manager in the water/wastewater/water resources practice or senior level team members.
  • Utilize basic engineering principles judgement theories practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
  • Work on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses.
  • Perform work with little supervision.
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems.
  • Identify discrepancies in outcomes results and analysis of engineering tasks.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Provide guidance to entrylevel engineers.
  • Record field data using tablets and GPS units.
  • Record and interpret data conduct analyses prepare reports and compare findings to relevant studies and local state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Perform data gathering site visits field measurements mapping and observations during construction.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Software use includes but is not limited to: AutoCAD Civil 3D ArcGIS Bentley and/or hydraulic modeling packages.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in civil engineering Environmental Engineering or related discipline 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in planning modeling and/or design of water wastewater and stormwater utility projects. 
  • Professional Engineer or ability to obtain PE licensure within one (1) year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressive experience with water/wastewater utility planning modeling condition assessment and design.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD HCS AutoCAD MicroStation GIS Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).Demonstrated time management skills work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians designers engineers and project managers for the preparation of highquality work products.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients subconsultants regulatory agencies and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Flexible can adapt to shifting priorities / work schedules.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Selflearner.
