The RCP Student Technician reflects the mission vision and values of NM adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
This position supports the Respiratory Care department and is primarily responsible for basic level respiratory care activities as listed in the Respiratory Care Practice Act. This position applies fundamental concepts practices and procedures/policies. No one can work in this position for >3 years.
Responsibitities:
Basic respiratory care activities means and includes all of the following activities:
- Cleaning disinfecting and sterilizing equipment used in the practice of respiratory care as delegated by a licensed health care professional or other authorized licensed personnel.
- Assembling equipment used in the practice of respiratory care as delegated by a licensed health care professional or other authorized licensed personnel.
- Collecting and reviewing patient data through noninvasive means provided that the collection and review does not include the individuals interpretation of the clinical significance of the data. Collecting and reviewing patient data includes the performance of pulse oximetry incentive spirometry and noninvasive monitoring procedures in order to obtain vital signs and notification to licensed health care professionals and other authorized licensed personnel in a timely manner.
- Maintaining a nasal cannula or face mask for oxygen therapy in the proper position on the patients face.
- Assembling a nasal cannula or face mask for oxygen therapy at patient bedside in preparation for use.
- Maintaining a patients natural airway by physically manipulating the jaw and neck suctioning the oral cavity or suctioning the mouth or nose with a bulb syringe.
- Performing assisted ventilation during emergency resuscitation using a manual resuscitator.
- Using a manual resuscitator at the direction of a licensed health care professional or other authorized licensed personnel who is present and performing routine airway suctioning. These activities do not include care of a patients artificial airway or the adjustment of mechanical ventilator settings while a patient is connected to the ventilator.
- Per the Respiratory Care Practice Act a student shall not be prohibited when enrolled in a respiratory care education program or an approved course of study leading to a degree or certification in a health carerelated discipline that provides respiratory care activities within his or her scope of practice and employed in a licensed hospital in order to provide direct patient care services under the direction of other authorized licensed personnel from providing respiratory care activities.
- A licensed professional (i.e. Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner) is able to appropriately delegate nebulizer treatments to an appropriately trained individual once competency has been complete.
Qualifications :
Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Actively enrolled in an approved school or program for respiratory care.
- Will have one year upon graduation from program to pass NBRC exam
- Will have 6 months post NBRC exam passing to obtain RCP License in state of IL
Preferred:
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
