Job Description

The Clinic Research Nurse Coordinator Transcatheter Valve reflects the mission vision and values of NM adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Clinic Research Nurse Coordinator Transcatheter Valve is responsible for planning coordinating and directing the operations of research activities as related to the Transcatheter Valve population as well as providing appropriate clinical care to research related Transcatheter Valve patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in research quality and database development/management: Assist as indicated in clinical trials. Identify appropriate candidates for enrollment in clinical research. Ensure compliance with research protocols through obtaining consent blood work orders communicating test results recognizing adverse side effects and documentation on flow sheet and in medical records.
  • Knowledge of ongoing clinical trials and other cardiac operations and procedures.
  • Serves as point of access for the Transcatheter Valve Study patient population: addressing patient/family/referring physician concerns pre and postprocedure.
  • Coordinates and develops educational programs and tools for patients families and other health care personnel.
  • Provides to the patient family and/or referring physician procedure information including technique outcomes preparation.
  • Sees patients in clinic postprocedure and works with patients during longterm followup. 
  • Evaluates learning needs and abilities of patients and families and adapts education to meet those needs. Documents education and participates in the development of the educational plan.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in critical situations:  emergencies and when patients/families are in crises
  • Assists in preparation of departmentspecific education for patients and/or colleagues.
  • Assists the physicians as needed in the outpatient department by providing education and followup.
  • Serves as a resource to Cardiac Surgery Cardiology and hospital nursing by providing ongoing education regarding procedure technique patient preparation outcomes and followup to nursing staff etc.
  • Works as part of an interdisciplinary care team to coordinate ongoing care. Focuses on cost effective ways to maximize wellness prevent illness disability and disease.
  • Guides the review revision and maintenance of protocols. Assures established protocols meet compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides guidance to clinical research staff on projects related to new research study submissions utilization reviews wording/phrasing of medical orders protocols and workflows.
  • Supports the development of projects created in response to researchrelated  events as identified and reported by staff and research study team members (e.g. adverse events deviations and preventative actions).
  • Supports the clinical research staff during adverse events emergencies and difficult clinical situations.
  • Assists in the preparation for NMH website regarding VHD and assists with develops websites for references for valve disease
  • Works closely with faculty on development of abstracts publications and presentations with the ultimate goal of increasing awareness and reputation of the Center for Heart Failure.
  • Participates in data abstraction and chart review as necessary to support mission of increasing abstracts publications and presentations.
  • Works collaboratively with the physicians Transcatheter Valve APPs and RNs and Quality Outcomes team in tracking data.
  • Drives quality improvement initiatives in conjunction with the outcomes program.
  • Acts as liaison for Division of cardiac surgery and Division of cardiology: Represent NM at conferences and Transcatheter Valve related events as approved. Acts as mentor to new staff.
  • Inpatient: Serves as a resource to patients families and staff. Assist staff to facilitate patient care as needed. Participate in new staff orientation as needed.
  • Outpatient: Meet with patients in the clinic as warranted to reinforce education and ensure a seamless transition from inpatient to outpatient setting.
  • Assist with the development and coordinator of Transcatheter Valve community outreach both within the NM system and outside.
  • Contribute to nursing and hospital committees as heart failure designate by attending and actively participating on committees or meetings organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership

Qualifications :

Required:

  • Registered nurse in the state of Illinois.
  • Bachelors degree in nursing or other related field.
  • 25 years of work experience in healthcare.
  • The individual shall be qualified by training; experience interest demonstrated current ability and shall be willing and able to discharge the duties of his/her office.
  • The individual shall possess interpersonal and timemanagement skills organizational skills and a working knowledge of trends in cardiovascular disease.

Preferred:

  • 3 or more years of cardiovascular experience.
  • 1 or more years of transcatheter valve experience
  • clinical research experience
  • Specialty certification in the clinical area of focus.
