Job Description
We are looking for an ecologist with a minimum of two years consultancy experience who is either already project managing small / large schemes or looking to progress into project management. We are looking for candidates with experience in undertaking Phase 1 / UK Hab surveys with a FISC 3 level qualification (or working towards this) and / or hold protected species license(s).
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading protected species surveys or habitat surveys as well as assisting on nocturnal bat surveys
- Biodiversity Net Gain assessments
- Project management of small to medium scale projects
- Liaise with Project Managers Assistant Ecologists and Clients
- Preparing tender / fee proposals for a range of schemes.
- Supporting Assistant Ecologists
- Report writing including the production of: Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and other technical reporting.
- Ecological Clerk or Works / Site supervision for mitigation works.
- Able to provide expert advice on UK wildlife legislation and best practice as well as keeping up to date with any changes.
Desired Skills / Qualifications
- At least two years consultancy experience (essential)
- A degree in Ecology (or related subject) or equivalent experience (essential)
- Full clean driving licence with business use on your insurance policy and access to your own transport (essential)
- Knowledge and understanding of UK wildlife legislation (essential)
- Knowledge and understanding of the planning system (desirable but not essential)
- CIEEM Membership minimum of Qualifying and working towards Associate (essential)
- Excellent Project management and client liaison skills (essential)
- Experience in leading and undertaking either protected species surveys or habitat surveys (essential)
- Experience at writing PEAs / EcIAs (essential)
- Experience in undertaking BNG assessments (desirable but not essential)
- Working towards or a holder of one or more protected species survey licences; or equivalent level of experience in a specialist field (e.g. FISC 3)
- Named ecologist on a mitigation licence
- Proficiency in QGIS / QFIELD and / or other GIS software (essential)
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team (essential)
- Flexibility to meet the needs of the business including irregular hours and travel (essential)
- Good organisational skills proactive with a high level of motivation.
- ECoW experience.
Every summer we have a large amount of survey work to undertake and everyone is expected to help out. We offer flexible hours and we also offer paid overtime or TOIL for hours worked on surveys over contracted hours. We do ask that you have a availability for at least two evenings per week (Monday to Thursday) between April and September.
