Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the accurate completion and submission of various taxation compliance requirements including those for the IRS SEC State of Nevada the PUCN and FERC as well as various consolidated weekly monthly quarterly and annual corporate taxation reporting to senior leadership. Develops templates and provides clear guidance to work effectively with both the taxation team and senior leadership. Evaluates internal trends and performance data to ensure opportunities to improve are identified. Ensures accuracy and integrity of information being reported.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Compliance

  • Oversees all areas of corporate tax compliance. Ensures timely and accurate filings with external and internal parties. Reconciles filings with internal workpapers. Reviews tax computations and filings for accuracy. Ensures all new tax legislation is properly accounted for and disclosed in the financial statements including but not limited to corporate tax rate changes new tax credits and other complex tax items occurring in recent years.
  • Manages the income and nonincome tax accrual and all support/reconciliations.
  • Ensures accurate and timely tax payments and reconciliation to tax payable/receivable accounts.
  • Monitors IRS and other jurisdictional audits and accounts for positions accordingly.
  • Abides by all SOX 404 internal controls.

Data Analysis

  • Prepares and analyzes fluctuation reports for tax data including the accrual the tax return the plan and others clearly analyzing and explaining fluxes as necessary.
  • Provides and communicates data to relevant parties.
  • Reviews and analyzes memorandums on relevant tax issues.

Planning and Forecasting

  • Reviews and assists with the 10year planning and forecasting process.
  • Recommends solutions to issues. Keeps current on new tax laws and opportunities and implements them.
  • Assists with business transformation initiatives including conversion to new software systems occurring within the taxation department.

Leadership

  • Supervises a staff of professionals; provides mentorship and training.
  • Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of the position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies codes and regulations applicable to the position.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Legal Work Authorization:

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
    • Sponsorship will not be provided now or in the future.
  2. Education:

    • Bachelor s degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited institution (concentration and college details required).
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
    • Additional relevant certifications are a plus.
  3. Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience as an accountant with handson expertise in federal and state tax law and compliance requirements.
    • Proven track record of accurate completion and submission of taxation compliance requirements including:
      • IRS
      • SEC
      • State taxation authorities
      • PUCN FERC
      • Consolidated corporate taxation reporting (weekly monthly quarterly and annual)
      • SOX 404 compliance
      • 10year UI planning and forecasting processes
    • Experience managing teams including mentorship and supervision of professionals. (Please specify team size and roles managed.)
  4. Technical Skills:

    • Deep understanding of corporate tax compliance including reconciliation and filings.
    • Familiarity with business transformation initiatives including software system conversions in the taxation department.
    • Ability to analyze fluctuation reports prepare tax data and create accurate forecasts and plans.
  5. Leadership and Communication:

    • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor train and guide staff.
    • Proficient in communicating technical tax issues and data effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  6. Language Proficiency:

    • Fluent in English (additional language fluency is a plus).
  7. Work History:

    • Candidates with more than 3 jobs in the last 10 years must provide detailed explanations.
    • Reasoning for each role transition (voluntary or involuntary) will be reviewed.
  8. Additional Requirements:

    • Must agree to work onsite in Reno Nevada.
