Job Description

The summer program begins with a weeklong Intern Orientation for you to engage with fellow Interns and learn about the resources and programs available to you. We offer companywide departmental overviews for you to explore more about what we do at CPP Investments and give you the opportunity to gain exposure to senior leadership across the firm. You will quickly advance your knowledge and expertise through skillsbased training and stimulating onthejob assignments. You will participate in additional summer programming such as our Intern Case Competition and our Speaker Series where each session focuses on a different aspect of our culture including Employee Resource Groups Inclusion & Diversity and much more.  We encourage you to bring your full self to work and take every opportunity to excel in your role to build your career at CPP Investments.

You will join us as an Intern Analyst for the Summer of 2025 in the Legal Department. Candidates in an undergraduate or graduate program in law that will be returning to school in Fall 2025 are eligible to apply. 

Overview Of Legal Department

The Legal Department provides advice and effectively manages legal matters and regulatory compliance across all aspects of investing and managing CPP Investments assets and enterprise activities including supporting our Board of Directors.  We deliver advice directly through a strong inhouse team and use of specialized external counsel where appropriate.

Our core objectives are to manage legal and regulatory risk ensure compliance with the law maintain strong internal governance and effectively support CPP Investments Board of Directors.  We also support reputational risk management and policy advocacy. We accomplish these objectives by providing strategic practical and commercially balanced advice across the business; effectively identifying and managing legal and compliance risks; ensuring CPP Investments has access to best in class technical and marketspecific expertise; and delivering services scaleably and efficiently.

The Legal Department provides support through the following teams:

Legal provides investment enterprise and general support for all departments including investment departments.

Compliance responsible for internal compliance matters as well as regulatory compliance support.

Board Secretariat responsible for supporting CPP Investments Board and its Committees working closely with the CEOs office in this regard.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working with a Director Legal and closely and collaboratively with other lawyers and department staff provide advice assess legal risk and deliver support across a broad range of compliance enterprise and investment activities 
  • Assist on Legal Department projects and gain experience in legal research drafting problem solving and communications
  • Assist legal professionals in the preparation and review of commercial and transactional agreements
  • General assistance on other legal matters as they arise

Qualifications :

Position Requirements

  • Students wishing to apply must be Indigenous/Aboriginal Peoples of Canada (Status Indian NonStatus Indian Inuit or Mtis) and enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in law graduating in December 2025 (or later).
  • Preference for students in their 2nd year (i.e. 2L) but all applications will be considered.
  • Interest in Capital Markets & Investment Management Governance Compliance or Risk
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including strong legal research and writing skills and an interest in working in a dynamic collaborative environment. 
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Candidates must exemplify CPP Investments guiding principles of high performance integrity and partnership.
