Roles and responsibilities
Assume responsibility and accountability for physiotherapy care to individual or group of patients to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of a body part, and help patients reach maximum performance levels. Educate patients regarding physiotherapy techniques.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Plan and undertake comprehensive assessments of patients and to formulate effective, clinically reasoned treatment plans according to the set standards as to maintain professional standards for quality of patient’s care.
- Utilize various mechanical and electrical equipment, and prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Demonstrate clinical competence by consistently evaluating the effectiveness of the care delivered by self and establish priorities for care based on the doctor’s referral and/or the patient needs recognizing the availability of resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
- Provide particular expertise in the assessment and treatment of acute and chronic pain and muskoskeletal disorders (In-patients and Out-patients).
- Coordinate the long term rehabilitation process for patient with spinal cord injuries, brain cancer, stroke or other neurological disorders (In-patients and Out-patients).
- Provide particular expertise in performing therapeutic techniques such as heat and cold therapy using physiotherapy machines (SWD, Traction, etc.) therapeutic exercise, treatment and physical therapy.
- Document care planned and delivered in accordance with the acceptable international standards, HMG Policy and Physiotherapy documentation policy and maintain confidentiality of patient and personnel data and evaluate, record and report on patient progress.
- Demonstrate ethical and appropriate behavior for a clinical environment to include, but not limited to, the preservation of patient’s rights, dignity and privacy.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards laid down by such by JCIA or CBAHI and seek to support and achieve accreditation if required to do so by HMG.
- Assist with Quality improvement in the department and as part of the team and on-going search for excellence.
- Report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of HMG and its standards of services for patient, families, visitors and staff and/or any situation which places any person at risk of injury or other harm.
- Consider issues of safety, cost and clinical effectiveness when planning and delivering care and ensure a clean and safe environment for the delivery of patient care by regular checking of work area and equipment, reporting defects to the appropriate department.
- Contribute to the supplies management in the department to ensure that stock is used in the most effective way.
- Strive for “best practices” within own area of work and identify potential possibilities for process and service improvements.
- Provide patient and family education as per the needs.
- Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
- Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
- Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realms of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities
Desired candidate profile
- Clinical Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology to assess and treat a wide range of physical conditions.
- Ability to use therapeutic techniques and modalities effectively (e.g., heat/cold therapy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, massage therapy).
- Proficiency in exercise prescription, joint mobilizations, and movement analysis to improve strength, mobility, and flexibility.
- Knowledge of orthopedic, neurological, and cardiopulmonary physiotherapy techniques, including post-operative rehabilitation.
- Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:
- Skilled in conducting thorough physical assessments, including posture analysis, range of motion tests, strength testing, and gait analysis.
- Ability to create individualized treatment plans based on assessment results and patient goals.
- Expertise in identifying the root cause of injuries and conditions, whether musculoskeletal, neurological, or related to physical deconditioning.
- Rehabilitation and Treatment:
- Experience in designing and implementing rehabilitation programs tailored to the specific needs of patients recovering from surgery, injury, or illness.
- Ability to monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary to optimize recovery.
- Familiarity with advanced rehabilitation techniques, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and specialized modalities.
- Patient Education:
- Strong ability to educate patients and their families about the benefits of physiotherapy, self-care practices, injury prevention, and lifestyle changes to improve health.
- Provide clear instructions for home exercises and assist patients in understanding the importance of follow-through for optimal recovery.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Ability to motivate and encourage patients, building rapport and trust while addressing concerns about treatment progress.
- Skilled in explaining complex physiological concepts to patients in a clear and understandable manner.
