Echo Technician

Roles and responsibilities

Perform echocardiograms according to physician's orders and established practices and procedures by using non-invasive imaging technology to analyse a patient's heart, specifically the function of its veins, arteries, chambers, and valves.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

• Confers with cardiologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements.
• Prepares and mount ECG for interpretation by Cardiologist.
• Evaluates nature of critical and emergency procedures and rearranges patient priorities to accommodate them.
• Advises cardiologists of results of examination and provide preliminary diagnostic evaluation.
• Notifies cardiologist of significant scans necessitating immediate attention to patient.
• Assists and participate in ECHO and ECG procedure as per doctor’s order for both in patient or outpatient units.
• Assists in special procedures in the Cardiology department such as:
  • Echocardiogram
    • Dubutamine ECHO
    • Stress ECHO
    • Trans-esophageal ECHO
• Maintains a logbook of procedures done in the department procedures and prepare reports monthly statistical report.
• Applies HOLTER monitor to patients as per doctor’s order if nurse technician is busy.
• Helps to coordinate with patients for HOLTER monitoring or for HOLTER monitor.
• Reports directly to the Biomed through department in charge regarding any mechanical or electrical defect of equipment.
• Adheres to manufacturers routine for all equipment’s.
• Provides individualized patient / family education as per their needs.
• Organizes supplies in the unit.
• Adheres to dress code policy.
• Performs procedure within the infection control standards.
• Participates in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
• Enriches patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
• Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned with the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

Desired candidate profile

Education/ Professional Qualification

Diploma or equivalent qualification i.e. cardiovascular technology or relevant

Experience

Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience
Technical Expertise in Echocardiography:
Proficiency in performing transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms, including Doppler imaging, color flow, and spectral analysis.
Skilled in setting up and operating echocardiography equipment to capture high-quality images for analysis by physicians.
Experience in using ultrasound equipment to create detailed images of the heart’s structure and function, including the heart valves, chambers, and surrounding vessels.
Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology to ensure accurate imaging and assessment of abnormalities.
Knowledge of Cardiac Conditions:
Understanding of common cardiac conditions such as heart disease, heart valve defects, congenital heart defects, arrhythmias, and cardiomyopathies.
Ability to recognize abnormalities in echocardiographic images and understand their clinical significance.
Patient Care & Interaction:
Ability to explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and cooperation during the echocardiogram process.
Skilled in managing patients who may be anxious or uncomfortable with the procedure, especially in pediatric or geriatric populations.
Experience in performing echocardiograms in patients with complex medical histories or those requiring specialized attention.
