Roles and responsibilities
Perform all routine, basic and advanced Respiratory Care Modalities and Procedures as per the established Clinical Practice Guidelines or in consultation with the treating physicians and or Respiratory Therapy Supervisor for all patient group as required. Makes every possible efforts to apply and promote evidence-based and safe Respiratory Care Practice.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Follow appropriate Respiratory Care Management Plan in consultation with treating physician on patient with pulmonary diseases.
- Perform patient assessment including invasive and non-invasive monitoring and other non-invasive physiologic measurements.
- Monitor patient responses and modify therapies based on clinical/physiologic assessments and consultation with physician.
- Document all patients’ medical records clearly and concisely by charting in patient and department records.
- Apply and monitor all forms of invasive and non-invasive ventilation and consultation with the treating physician and modify ventilator management to meet patient needs based on clinical assessment and physiologic monitoring.
- Ensure maintenance and safe operation of equipment.
- Assist with pulmonary diagnostic procedures (i.e. Bronchoscopy, etc.) as necessary.
- Assess need for and initiates oxygen therapy, assessing efficacy and appropriateness through use of physical assessment, Spo2 and arterial blood gas sampling and interaction.
- Provide the associated cold/heated Aerosol or Humidity therapies when indicated and perform blood sampling for Blood Gases analysis via arterial puncture.
- Initiate or modify therapy appropriately as per established clinical practice guidelines or in consultation with treating physician, as well as A-line insertion if ordered, the RT should be certified depending on the ICU Policy, As per approved by the privilege committee.
- Assist in administering Aerosolized Medications such as Bronchodilators, Corticosteroids, Antibiotics, Xylocaine, Pentamidine, Ribavirin and Morphine Sulphate in consultation with treating physician.
- Perform all routine Respiratory Care modalities and procedures including but not limited to Chest Physiotherapy/ Bronchial Hygiene Therapy (percussion, vibration, postural drainage, etc.) and Lung Expansion Therapies.
- Perform Advanced Airway Management and clearance for all patients in the service, in emergency and non-emergency situations, provision of effective bag-valve-mask ventilation during codes.
- Perform Advanced level Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as per CPR policy and guidelines.
- Provide continuing Respiratory Home-Care, Long term Care and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.
- Perform Respiratory related diagnostics modalities and procedures such as Basic Pulmonary Function Testing, Sleep Disorders Screening and Metabolic Studies as indicated by the treating physician.
- Assist and provide patient instruction on proper use of therapeutic modalities and techniques, conduct patient Specialized education programs such as Smoking Cessation, Asthma Education, COPD education programs
- Perform Tracheostomy Tube Care as needed and coordinate patient weaning and corking with the physicians.
- Comply with JCIA Standards, HMG Infection Control and Safety Protocols and ensure appropriate documentation is recorded in the approved health information systems.
- Transport critical, intubated and ventilated based on the hospital policy neonatal, pediatric and adult patient based on the hospital policy.
- Provide patient and family education as per the needs.
- Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
- Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
- Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned with the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

Education/ Professional Qualification
Education : Bachelor’s Degree
Professional : Respiratory Therapy
Experience
Preferably (2) year of relevant experience.
Clinical Expertise:
Proficient in performing and interpreting respiratory diagnostic tests, such as pulmonary function tests (PFTs), blood gas analysis, and oximetry.
Expertise in providing ventilator management, including initiating, adjusting, and weaning ventilators for patients in critical care.
Skilled in performing airway management, including intubation and suctioning, as well as non-invasive ventilation (e.g., CPAP, BiPAP).
Knowledgeable in administering respiratory medications, including bronchodilators, steroids, and inhaled antibiotics.
Patient Care:
Ability to assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patients’ respiratory status, providing interventions as necessary.
Strong understanding of different types of respiratory disorders and how to manage their symptoms effectively.
Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care, providing emotional support to patients and families dealing with respiratory issues.
Technical Proficiency:
Familiarity with respiratory equipment, including ventilators, oxygen therapy devices, nebulizers, and pulse oximeters.
Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) and respiratory monitoring systems to document patient care and track progress.
Critical Thinking:
Ability to analyze complex clinical data and make appropriate decisions regarding treatment plans.
Quick decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure, critical care environments.
Communication Skills:
Clear and effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team to explain treatment plans and respiratory procedures.
Ability to provide detailed and accurate reports and documentation related to patient care.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement respiratory care plans.
Ability to work effectively under pressure, especially in emergency situations or critical care settings.
