Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Provide complete audiology evaluator, for a clinic population in excess of from neonates to geriatrics, in direct support of the ENT Service which is currently staffed with physicians.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Perform, monitor and evaluate audiologic testing on all patients referred such as pure tone and speech testing, site of lesion determination, impedance audiometry, and brain stem evoked response audiometry.
  • Perform basic audiologic examination and hearing aid evaluations, determines appropriate amplifications and provides appropriate counselling.
  • Perform electronystagmography.
  • Participate in the training of paraprofessional personnel, thereby increasing the quality level and availability of audiologic testing within the medical community.
  • Maintain and updates clinical data file on audiologic patients seen and evaluated in the department, and prepares clinical and statistical reports for purposes of referral and administration.
  • Make appropriate referrals to departmental physicians when indicated.
  • Monitor performance level and provide quarterly assessment of personnel within the audiologic section to the Senior Otolaryngologist.
  • Maintain and further advances the level and range of audiologic assessments through continued medical education, to include the attendance at a minimum of one clinically applicable course or meeting (approved by Senior Physician) annually.
  • Responsible for evaluating, updating, and maintaining all equipment within the audiologic service.
  • Provide training to paraprofessional staff to facilitate expanded audiologic capacity, as well as supervising the current technician.
  • Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
  • Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
  • Perform other applicable task and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities, commensurate with his/her assignment.

Desired candidate profile

Bachelor of Science Degree, Audiology or Biology or Communicative Disorders or related subject

Experience

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in diagnostic audiology
Technical Expertise:
Proficient in conducting hearing and balance tests, including audiometry, tympanometry, and otoacoustic emissions (OAEs).
Skilled in fitting, programming, and maintaining hearing aids and other assistive devices.
Knowledge of cochlear implants and vestibular assessments (preferred).
Communication Skills:
Strong ability to explain diagnoses, treatment plans, and device usage to patients and families.
Empathy and patience when working with individuals experiencing hearing loss or balance disorders.
Analytical Thinking:
Ability to analyze test results and formulate accurate diagnoses.
Problem-solving skills to address complex hearing and balance issues.
Team Collaboration:
Works effectively with ENT specialists, speech-language pathologists, and other healthcare providers.
Technological Proficiency:
Familiarity with audiology software, hearing aid programming tools, and electronic medical records (EMRs).
