We are seeking a skilled and motivated metallurgist to join a fantastic team at an underground zinc operation. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment situated in a beautiful area just a short drive from the Thousand Islands Lake Ontario and the Adirondack Mountains. Youll also have access to worldclass skiing at Lake Placid. Additionally Canada is within easy reach with Montreal and Ottawa only 23 hours away.
In this role you will monitor production processes troubleshoot issues and work closely with multiple departments to maximize efficiency and minimize production interruptions. You will be responsible for overseeing mill maintenance planning running tests managing chemical inventories and coordinating with various teams to ensure optimal performance.
This is an onsite position and relocation assistance is available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage quality assurance and quality control for assay laboratory and milling operations.
- Monitor milling processes to maintain or enhance production efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Mine and Shaft Departments to maximize opportunities and minimize production interruptions.
- Oversee maintenance planning for the mill and troubleshoot issues within the production process.
- Provide technical assistance to mill operators millwrights and laboratory technicians.
- Conduct tests on new ore bodies and chemicals to optimize recovery rates.
- Maintain chemical inventory and manage ordering requirements.
- Oversee metallurgical accounting and control material inventories including concentrate storage ore tanks and ore pads.
- Provide the Accounts Receivable Department with metallurgical data for preparing provisional invoices and negotiating final invoices.
- Communicate concentration inventories and production schedules to the Shipping Department to facilitate efficient scheduling of outbound concentrate transport.
- Coordinate with the Environmental Department regarding discharge water quality flow management treatment processes and Tailings Storage Facility inspections.
- Stay updated on industry practices innovations and technological advancements.
- Assist in budget planning for production operations and capital expenditures.
- Manage mill supervisors lead millwrights laboratory technicians and other mill personnel as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures including safety environmental standards confidentiality and the code of conduct.
- Exercise discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of job performance.
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
- Support the development of personnel in other departments to carry out assigned duties effectively.
Requirements
Education:
- BS degree in Metallurgical or Chemical engineering.
Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in mill operations. mill maintenance and production.
- General understanding of mining operations as well a vast understanding of milling flotation and maintenance operations.
- Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing spreadsheet databases and presentation software.
- Valid drivers license is required.
- Knowledge in processing modelling software is preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $90000 to $115000. This range may be modified in the future and actual compensation may vary from posting based on geographic location work experience education and/or skill level. Employees may be eligible to participate in company employee benefit programs such as health insurance savings plan pension plan disability plan vacation pay sick time holiday pay and work personal and family time off in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
