Provide all emergency neonatal services required without assistance or supplementation by other MTF physicians. Adequately diagnose and treat diseases/injuries; perform medical procedures/tasks to include but not limited to the following:
Provide acute and chronic inpatient medical care for neonatal patients in the NSU. Expedite care and facilitate consultation of complex patients to multiple specialties as needed. Attend periodic onsite meetings for complicated obstetric patients (COB) the Perinatal Advisory Board (PAB) and Code Purple drill planning meetings.
Respond to Code Purple: A Code Purple can be called 24 hours a day seven days a week to activate an emergency response for additional personnel to support a potential OB and/or neonatal emergency.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluating and treating newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders infections and birth defects.
- Diagnosing and treating newborns with critical illnesses.
- Coordinating care and medically managing newborns born premature critically ill or in need of surgery.
- Ensuring that critically ill newborns receive the appropriate nutrition for growth and development.
- Providing care to the newborn at a cesarean or other delivery that requires advanced resuscitation.
- Stabilizing and treating newborns with any lifethreatening medical problems.
- Educating and counseling parents about their babys condition.
- Working closely with pediatricians and other medical specialists to ensure comprehensive care for the newborn.
- Conducting followup visits to monitor the babys condition and progress.
- Examine and diagnose newborns for a variety of medical conditions.
- Collaborate with obstetricians pediatricians and family physicians to provide the best possible care for newborns.
- Develop specialized treatment plans for newborns.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers about the babys health and progress.
- Conduct followups with patients to monitor their health conditions.
- Manage newborn care in the intensive care unit (NICU).
- Perform medical procedures as necessary.
Qualifications :
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Doctor of Medicine Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or comparable degree from an accredited institution. Completion of an ACGME accredited fellowship in NeonatalPerinatal Medicine Board Certified in Neonatology.
- Shall be an American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) board certified or board eligible NeonatalPerinatal Medicine physician. Must maintain certification in good standing for the duration of employment
- Experience in a level III NICU setting to include experience managing high frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) wholebody cooling for hypoxemicischemic encephalopathy inhaled nitric oxide for pulmonary hypertension required.
- Competence with NICU procedures including intubation umbilical line placement arterial puncture peripheral arterial line placement and chest tube insertion required. Experience with neonatal transport preferred.
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to explain complex medical terms and conditions in an understandable way.
- Compassionate and sensitive to patients needs and concerns.

Required Work Experience
- Completed recognized residency program in Neonatology.
- Three years experience in Neonatology.
- Prior military or remote experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Possess a current active valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 states the District of Columbia the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands
- Possess and maintain current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program.
- A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to deploying. To be considered for the position you must have at least 18 months left on your passport before renewal. You must also maintain that passport during your stay.
