Job Title: Locomotive Electrician

Job Description:
In your role as a Locomotive Electrician you will:
Inspect service and make necessary repairs to passenger coaches and locomotives within OEM/FRA/DO.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
Responsible for troubleshooting analysis fault detection and repair of locomotive electrical and train control systems subsystems and components.
Perform modifications from drawings prints or electrical systems on locomotives as assigned.
Perform fault detection and diagnostics through the use of microprocessors and diagnostic equipment.
Install and maintain electrical wiring and equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) electrical equipment.
Perform equipment work order management using asset management database.
Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
Perform equipment work order management using asset management database.
Operate locomotive passenger coaches and prime mover as part of team to move rail equipment.
Additional duties as assigned per union agreement and incidental work rule provisions.
Training
Training will be provided in Baltimore Maryland upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma/GED
18 years of age or older
Valid Drivers License
4 or more years of experience working as an electrician in an industrial environment
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
Experience in interpreting circuit schematics
Preferred Qualifications
Journeyman Electrician
Master Electrician
Basic Competencies
Verbal comprehension (Understanding oral and written communicationsboth general and technical)
Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
Reasoning skills (problemsolving and troubleshooting skills)
Mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of electrical theory
Must be able to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation and qualification
Need to meet regulatory medical qualifications to qualify for Maintenance Facility Engineer and Maintenance Facility Conductor
Driving record needs to be absent any moving convictions for alcohol or substance abuse within the previous 36 months
Must have basic proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e. Outlook)
Physical Requirements
Heavy work lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a regular basis
Push/pull/grip/carry on a regular basis
Walking long distances over uneven terrain
Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity
Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis
Employment Conditions

Wear protective equipment such as hard hat hearing protection safetytoe boots and safety glasses
Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek overtime and various shift work
Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination
Subject to random testing for drugs and/or alcohol per certifications
Must pass all required assessments
Required to pass a postoffer medical examination including drug and alcohol testing.
This position will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement membership is required
Active employees must complete one year in current position or craft before applying for positions.
