About the Role:

LightfortheWorld is seeking an Internal Auditor to ensure transparency accountability and operational efficiency within the organization. This role ensures costeffective protection of LightfortheWorld assets and involves conducting independent evaluations of financial and operational activities ensuring compliance with legal and donor requirements and improving internal controls. The Internal Auditor will play a critical role in safeguarding resources and supporting the organizations mission.

Tasks

Key Responsibilities:

Audit Planning and Execution

  • Develop and implement annual internal audit plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify key operational areas for auditing.
  • Perform financial operational and compliance audits aligned with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Assess internal controls and recommend improvements.

Financial Audits

  • Review financial statements accounting records and processes for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of donor funds in line with agreements.

Operational Audits

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of operational processes.
  • Ensure resources align with organizational goals.
  • Propose process enhancements for better program delivery.

Compliance Audits

  • Verify adherence to legal regulatory and donorspecific requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with grant terms local laws and other standards.

Reporting

  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports detailing findings risks and recommendations.
  • Present findings to senior management and the audit committee.
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective actions.

Risk Management

  • Identify organizational risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with management to design effective internal controls.

Fraud Detection and Prevention

  • Investigate potential fraud or fund misappropriation.
  • Develop antifraud programs and promote ethical practices among staff.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Train staff on internal controls compliance and financial best practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability within the organization.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration or related fields (Masters degree or certifications like CPA/ACCA are a plus).

Experience:

  • 35 years of experience in internal auditing (preferably in the NGO sector).

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of internal control frameworks risk management and audit methodologies.
  • Familiarity with donor compliance requirements (e.g. USAID EU UN).
  • Proficiency in financial management software and audit tools.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • High ethical standards with integrity.
  • Ability to work independently while managing time effectively.
  • Willingness to travel to field offices in subSaharan Africa.
