The Senior Safety Inspector is the Companys authorized representative for nonfinancial matters and is to inspect and coordinate the Safety aspects on all construction projects and ensure conformance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Standard and other Company safety related policies specifications and requirements.
The Safety Inspector shall through assurance validate compliance to company specifications and standards contractor safety documents inclusive including but not limited to the Project/SiteSpecific Safety Plan(P/SSSP) Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and other contractor hazard control plans and documents within their Safety Management System.
**This is a contract position starting in January and it would be ongoing. The work would be anywhere between Medicine Hat AB and Brandon MB.
Responsibilities
Perform PreConstruction Activities:
Interface with the Project Management Team (PMT) to build relationships and gain knowledge of the project scope of work (SOW).
Assist in performing PreConstruction Hazard Assessments (PCHA).
Participate in Project Kickoff meetings.
Be familiar with applicable Standards and Specifications for the project SOW.
Provide Contractor Oversight During Construction:
Provide direct support to the Contractor Safety Management Team (CSMT) Safety Specialist (CSMSS) and Construction Manager (CM) ensuring they are kept aware of any developing safety issues trends and/or incidents.
Routinely liaise with Field Safety Specialist (FSS) and the contractor site safety representative.
Verify the contractor is implementing and adhering to their P/SSSP ERP and other contractor hazard control plans and documents within their Safety Management System.
Review and understand contractor Safe Work Practices & Job Safety/Hazard Analysis for the work they are assigned to oversee and hold contractor accountable to execute the work to the per the procedures.
Support the identification and mitigation of STCKY (Stuff That Can Kill You) hazards to prevent Significant Injuries & Fatality (SIF) incidents.
Complete worksite inspections to identify safety nonconformance issues report to appropriate supervision and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Complete the daily reports including support of safety reporting (e.g. SHAREs and Near Misses) in accordance with applicable Company Inspection Standards.
Verify contractors develop and implement effective corrective measures for identified deficiencies.
Conduct sitespecific safety orientations in conjunction with Operations and contractor safety representatives.
Use stop work authority to immediately stop work activity and notify supervision of unsafe conditions and/or acts.
Ensure all site personnel are aware of their obligation to use stop work authority.
Provide safety leadership expertise and guidance to other inspection staff and project personnel.
Create and foster a positive work environment and a proactive safety culture.
Conduct work site safety walk downs and note any discrepancies.
Lead and participate in the celebration of health and safety successes.
Participate in all applicable projectrelated meetings (e.g. prejob tailgate hazard assessments safety standdown lessons learned closeout and special safety meetings).
Ensure all incidents and near hits are promptly reported to onsite supervision CSMSS and FSS.
Identify safety nonconformance issues report to appropriate supervision and ensure that corrective actions are implemented.
Support the development of Critical Actual (CA)/ Critical Potential (CP) alerts.
Review all incidents and near hits with CSMSS FSS CM and the contractors site safety representative.
Help develop appropriate corrective action plans when required.
Participate in incident prevention investigation (including input for incident classification) analyses and preparation of reports and summaries.
Provide contractors with relevant (internal or external) health and safety bulletins.
Maintain files of applicable safety documentation (e.g. inspections reports and site observations).
Review the contractors health and safety performance with the site safety representative before demobilizing.
Participation in lessons learned and closeout meeting(s).
Identify innovation and value creation opportunities related to construction safety aspects.
