Job Description

The Content Project Manager coordinates either directly or via the supervision of vendor fullservice project managers all aspects of editorial production from manuscript to final print and digital deliverablesfor Higher Education and High School titles across various disciplines (Humanities Sciences and Social Sciences). In a typical year the Content Project Manager oversees production of a number of mainedition titles as well as ancillaries and smallerscale updates to existing digital projects.

The Content Project Manager leverages a variety of production workflows and tools to achieve desired milestone dates oversees scheduling and coordinates the efforts of vendor project managers authors editors and freelancers to ensure that projects remain on track. The project manager also ensures that vendor work meets the highest of standards and that costs and services are streamlined for projects in their charge.

The Content Project Manager also handles daytoday invoice processing.

Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze project/customer needs and independently develop a productioneditorial plan appropriate for each title leveraging existing production workflows to meet desired dates.
  • Adapt productioneditorial processes for new technology developments and assist the department in achieving digital goals. Utilize various digital production tools to execute tasks report bugs/issues and coordinate work between team members.
  • Analyze and evaluate text manuscripts and art programs to determine content needs (such as art rendering and copyediting requirements) and design requirements. Gather projectspecific information from content and manufacturing teams to properly set up projects with vendors and coordinate all needed services. Compile detailed cost estimates for such services and streamline services and costs when possible.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to create schedules; monitor schedules and make revisions as circumstances require (either directly for actively managed titles or via supervision of vendor project managers).
  • Supervise the work of vendor project managers for fullservice projects to ensure that proper workflows and specifications are followed and that project management meets the highest standards.
  • Work with vendor partners to select editorial freelancers appropriate to each project ensure that copyeditors proofreaders and indexers follow style guidelines and enforce exacting standards for freelancer work.
  • For actively managed projects check all stages of proof and ePub revisions and final files to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Build a detailed profile of each title for vendor partner (workflow required services unique features and specs) and initiate and review cost estimates.
  • Work with vendor partners in both activemanagement and fullservice capacities depending on the unique circumstances for each project. Work with vendor to select supervise and evaluate copyeditors proofreaders indexers and other freelancers; negotiate projectspecific assignments based on evaluation of partner recommendations.
  • Track project status and scheduling. Coordinate work between team members assigning tasks and managing handoffs.
  • Compile a detailed living record of project information for each title.

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree.
  • 5 years of production editorial experience (preferably in college textbooks or a similarly rigorous and fastpaced field of work).
  • Experience applying outstanding time management and organizational skills.
  • Experience demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize think critically and problemsolve.
  • Experience demonstrating superior copyediting and proofreading skills.
  • Professional experience applying ready familiarity with ePubs or similar digital products and the conventions of digital content and design.
  • Professional experience applying ready familiarity with book design composition and page layout and type specs.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technologies and an increasingly electronic workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes and workflows.
  • Experience working collaboratively with authors vendors and all product team members.
  • Demonstrated exceptional ability to communicate complex information to a variety of stakeholders verbally in writing and in presentation.
  • Ability to work independently and follow a workflow; ability to work productively even in a remotework setup.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Adobe Acrobat Pro scheduling software (Smartsheets Monday Google Sheets etc.).
  • Familiarity with project management interfaces (JIRA/Confluence).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of HTML preferred (familiarity with CSS also a plus).
  • Some experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT Claude etc.

Salary Range: $60000 $75000/year 

Physical Requirements:  Requires long periods of close concentration and multitasking in noisy/busy environment; may need to work overtime more than 40 hours a week occasionally.

The position is eligible for remote employment excluding the following locations: Alaska Arkansas Hawaii Mississippi Nevada South Dakota West Virginia Wyoming.
