Under the direction of the Inpatient Coding Manager this position assists with the daily oversight of staff including staff scheduling workflow analysis productivity and quality monitoring staff engagement and training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Serve as a subject matter coding expert who monitors and evaluates the inpatient coding work and can interpret coding guidelines and abstract appropriate information according to standard classifications systems.
Perform data quality reviews and prepares complex reports as required.
Have and maintain a robust knowledge of inpatient coding conventions and rules established by Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the ICD10CM/PCS Official Coding Guidelines for correct assignment of diagnostic and procedure codes.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three (3) years of inpatient coding experience.
A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Epic and other vendor/system experience.
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Experience working for an Academic Medical Center and/or multihospital system.
Fourplus (4) years of inpatient coding experience.
Prior experience as a coding supervisor.
Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft products.
Strong communication organizational project management analytics presentation and decisionmaking skills.
CDI EXPERIENCE A PLUS!
EDUCATION:
Required Education:
Associates degree in Health Information Technology.
OR
Associates degree AND one (1) year of codingrelated work experience.
Preferred Education:
Bachelors degree in Business Administration Healthcare Management Health Information Administration Healthcare Business Finance or Medicine.
OR
Associates degree AND three years of Inpatient Coding experience AND one of the listed certifications.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
One of the following is required:
American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
Preferred Certifications & Licensure:
One of the following is preferred:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
