Ultrasound Technician

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide the services outlined below.  International SOS is looking for Ultrasound Technologists to work directly with patients and Physicians and operate equipment that uses high frequency soundwaves to take images and scans of the bodys internal organs. Technologist performs technical work in support of Diagnostic Radiology under the direction of a physician. 

Key responsibilities

• Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment both in the department and in the portable setting.  
• The Sonographer independently performs a wide range of routine and complex ultrasound exams and vascular studies; recognizing the need to make modifications during the examination.  
• These exams will be performed at a minimum 100% of the workweek.  
• Coordinates a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment ingenuity and initiative in the application of nonionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves to humans for diagnosis of disease.  
• Collaborates on surgical and research procedures under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner.  
• Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and rearranges patients scheduled to accommodate them.  
• Explains examinations to be performed to the patients so that an understanding of the purpose of the study as well as any requirements of the patients is thoroughly understood. This is done so that an adequate ultrasound study may be obtained to get diagnostic examinations for the purpose of treatment and diagnosis of disorders.  
• Advises radiologists or referring clinician of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing specific examination.  
• The Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist at this level must be able to work independently and make appropriate decisions with little interaction from the supervisor.  
• The incumbent works at a teaching medical center and will support the training and mentoring of Ultrasound students. 

Qualifications :

Basic Requirements/Certifications:  

• Certificate as a Sonographer from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or certificate from another body which the ARDMS recognizes as its credentialing equivalent to perform as an Ultrasound Technologist and professional publications. 
• a minimum of two years current experience in this field and recent Ultrasound Technologist experience in a hospital setting including covering inpatient units ED and ICU.  
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency. 
• Prior VA or military experience is preferred.
• Education Required: 
• Bachelors or associates degree in a related field preferred 
• High School Diploma or GED 
• Physical Requirements: 
• Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 50100 lbs.)  
• Considerable reaching stooping bending kneeling and crouching  
• Other Special Qualifications: 
• US Citizen 
• Must relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.  
• Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance 

Physical Requirements:

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
• May require bending stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

Compensation Min: $143.00hr    Max: $170.00hr

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data.
