About the Role
As a Mental Health Nurse you will provide clinical and mental health support for people in detention with mental health presentations including complexity and risk development of mental health recovery plans medication management referrals and discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with the primary health care team to ensure a multidisciplinary coordinated evidence based and integrated approach to service delivery.
- Participate in the assessment planning and implementation of care based on individual detainee needs incorporating a holistic recovery orientated approach to mental health care and service delivery.
- Ensure participation in relevant training and professional development for supporting high quality nursing.
- Provide mental health interventions relating to the management of mental health symptoms physical health monitoring whilst initiating treatment and therapeutic interventions as clinically indicated.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of primary mental health services and mental health outcomes of detainees.
- Undertake the timely completion of mental health assessments including formulation risk assessment psychological treatment crisis intervention crisis management plans outcome measures documentation of progress in the electronic medical record system discharge summaries and other required documentation and activities as required.
Qualifications :
- General unrestricted registration by AHPRA as Registered Nurse (Division 1)
- Postgraduate qualification in mental health that is University issued and is at an Australian Qualification Framework level 8 or higher.
Experience:
- At least five (5) years of clinical experience with nonTelehealthonly patient treatment as a Registered Nurse in an operational setting that provides Healthcare for patients with health needs.
- Extensive experience in the provision of mental health care including completion of mental health assessments crisis intervention psychoeducation and treatment interventions to people experiencing severe mental health and/or substance use problems including current evidencebased approaches.
- Understanding of the principles and issues relevant to coordinated multidisciplinary team approaches in the provision of mental health services.
Desirable
- Experience working within a detention or correctional setting.
