Job Description

As Science & Infrastructure Facilitation Officer you will have the following responsibilities;

  • Supporting coordination planning development and implementation of the CMIP data infrastructure.
  • Providing facilitation support and management of relevant CMIP and WIP task teams and joint activities with the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF).
  • Providing communication support to CMIP data infrastructure activities and engaging with relevant communities.
  • Promoting equity and inclusivity in CMIP data access.
  • Organising and facilitating infrastructure relevant meetings workshops conferences training sessions and other activities relevant to CMIP.
  • Reaching out to relevant wider communities such as PANGEO Copernicus and other emerging communities.

Qualifications :

You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience:

  • Masters degree in climate related sciences or other appropriate scientific field.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Significant expertise in project/programme management of large scientific and/or data infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience of research/science facilitation.
  • Experience of coding languages including Python C or Fortran.
  • Expertise in working in an international environment with globally distributed teams.
  • Excellent organisational interpersonal communication and mediation skills.
  • Proficiency in English.

The following would also be desirable:

  • PhD in climate science particularly climate modelling.
  • Qualification in project or programme management.
  • Qualification/experience in data science and/or data infrastructure management.
  • Experience working with climate models and climate data including familiarity with CMIP.
  • Experience in science communication and outreach.
