We are looking for a Behavior Interventionist who is bilingual in both Spanish and English with the ability to provide 1:1 behavior support to students with disabilities in an inclusive school environment. The Behavior Interventionist will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and serve under the direction of MLCs Director of Student Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor students with special needs and/or challenging behaviors and guide students toward developing positive behaviors.
- Under the direction of the MLC Administration implement students Behavior Strategic Plan/Behavior Intervention Plan.
- Collect data daily to gather information used to revise the Behavior Intervention Plan and to develop annual Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives.
- Demonstrate an understanding patient and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups and varied disabilities.
- Encourage appropriate student interactions with peers modeling social skills and behavioral interventions as needed.
- Support instruction to individuals or small groups of students as assigned.
- Assist in student assessments as appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate documentation records and reports as required by the school.
- Collaborate with classroom teacher to implement students IEP goals and objectives.
- Consult and collaborate with site staff about student progress.
- Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a training and educational environment.
- Utilize NonViolent Crisis Intervention strategies when necessary.
- Attend trainings and meetings as necessary.
- Welcome open inquiry feedback and review.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Minimum of BA degree and/or equivalent schooling and experience working with students in an educational setting.
- All required BII training (provided by school if needed).
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Ability to communicate effectively as well as understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
- Knowledge of basic concepts of child growth/development and developmental behavior; behavior management strategies and techniques relating to pupils experiencing behavioral difficulties; and understanding of positive behavioral interventions and applied behavior analysis.
- Must have a strong desire to work with children especially those with special needs.
- Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions.
- Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.
- Ability to bend at waist kneel or crouch to assist students.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carrying of weights up to 25 pounds.
