Job Description

* Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) preferred*

Fulltime Days $20000 Signon Bonus

As an Experienced Certified Wound Care Nurse you will be required to consistently demonstrate effective leadership behaviors advance evidencebased practices lead unit governance initiatives and coach others to excel and grow in their professional nursing roles. To include:

Clinical Practice

  1. Provides independent care for the unitspecific patient population; serves as a clinical resource integrates evidence into practice and functions effectively in unitspecific roles (e.g. arrest team for ICU triage for ED).
  2. Accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes during an episode of care.
  3. Accountable to peers for advancing group practice on the unit and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.
  4. Serves as a clinical expert and professional resource for unit nurses utilizing clinical expertise to teach informally on the unit or through formal classes.
  5. Advances clinical practice on the unit by consistently integrating evidence into practice forming a solid foundation for unit practice.
  6. Service/Quality

  7. Leads efforts to address Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI) improvement opportunities; develops implements and evaluates action plans.
  8. Leads performance improvement initiatives by designing implementing evaluating and disseminating results.
  9. Monitors patient and unit safety standards and actively contributes to the development and implementation of improvement plans.
  10. Coaches CNI and CNIIs on performance improvement (PI) and/or evidencebased practice (EBP).
  11. Complies with participates in and leads regulatory activities within the unit/division or organization.
  12. Leads the development of Performance Improvement EvidenceBased Practice or research at the unit level meeting at least one form of advancing practice in the continuum of research. Leads at least one primary project using a model as the projects framework identified within the portfolio.
  13. Unit Operations

  14. Performs charge role as scheduled and coaches new charge nurses.
  15. Oversees unit orientation program and plans clinical experiences for orientation.
  16. Serves as a unit steward (e.g. liaison for lab nutrition pharmacy).
  17. Mentors and coaches other nurses to advance their development and maintain competencies required for the patient population served.
  18. Role models and holds peers accountable for Healthy Work Environment guidelines (communication collaboration effective decisionmaking recognition leadership staffing).
  19. Orients nurses to unitlevel governance structure and councils.
  20. Professional Development

  21. Serves as an expert preceptor coach and mentor to new nurses students and preceptors.
  22. Mentors and coaches unit leaders or those assuming leadership roles on councils or major governance initiatives.
  23. Leads unit processes for the development of ancillary personnels skills and development; leads unitbased peer review processes.
  24. Actively engages in advancing own practice and serves as a role model for others.

Qualifications :

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Maryland or eligibility to practice due to Compact state agreements as outlined by the MD Board of Nursing.
  • BSN or Conferred BSN degree required as of July 1 2013.
  • Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) certification.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Relevant clinical work experience related to unit practice.
  • Maintenance of 20 contact hours of education every two years.
  • Membership in a professional organization.
  • Minimum 0.50 FTE status.

  • Current and active specialty certification OR
  • Current matriculation or completion of a degree or certificate program (PostBaccalaureate or higher 12 credits or greater) within the past 24 months OR
  • Formal teaching (submit signed Approval for Formal Teaching) within the past 24 months OR
  • Membership in a professional association board or committee within the past 24 months (not a hospital committee) OR
  • Active participation as a peer reviewer for a professional journal (minimum of 2/year submit signed Peer Reviewer Validation Form).
  • Demonstrated ability to assume a clinical leadership role and effectiveness as a multidisciplinary team member.
  • Proficiency in computer systems for managing patient information.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
  • Understanding of growth and development principles over the lifespan and ability to assess data reflective of patientspecific needs.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.

Patient Safety

  • Ensures patient safety in job functions and through participation in hospital department or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management.
  • Identifies possible risks in processes procedures and devices and communicates them to those in charge.
