Job Description

The perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace the patients circulatory or respiratory function. The perfusionist is knowledgeable concerning the variety of equipment available to perform extracorporeal circulation and ancillary functions; and is responsible in consultation with the physician for selecting the appropriate techniques and equipment to be used.

Team/Schedule Information:   

  • 15 perfusionists.
  • Average call amount for adult perfusionists is 6 days/month. (includes 2call 1call etc.)
  • Rotating schedule including morning shifts afternoon shifts night shifts call/weekends/holidays etc.
  • Post call days are given after primary call shifts.
  • 24/7 inhouse rotating perfusion Rounder coverage. 
    • Day rounder shifts are 7a7p.  (about 2 weekday shifts/month)
    • Night rounder shifts are 7p7a. (week off with each night rotation)
    • Night rotation schedule ON FriMon OFF TueMon ON TueThu OFF FriSun. (about 5 night rotations/year)
    • Inhouse rounder coverage reduces call in amounts for call team.
    • Ensures there is always another perfusionist inhouse for call person if help/break needed.   
    • Rounder will do cannulations/changeouts oversee and support the ECMO specialists and facilitate ECMO needs. 
    • Rounder also provides backup to the OR and helps coworkers or performs other tasks as needed.

Qualifications :

EDUCATION:

1. Bachelors Degree from an approved Perfusion Training program OR a Bachelors Degree with certification in perfusion technology (Required). 

2. Masters Preferred.

CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE/ REGISTRATION:

1. Eligible for Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (Required)

  • Current perfusion students who are anticipating graduation are also welcome to apply. 

2. Licensure with the State of Maryland specific as a Perfusionist (Required)

  • Current perfusion students who are anticipating graduation/licensure are also welcome to apply. 

3. Current CPR Certification (Required)

Pay Range: $65.73$87.5
